“Appalachian Trail Magic,”  L.L. Bean, Freeport

Feb. 22, Friday, 6pm, “TONE,” born from a mutual love of jazz harmony, lilting melody, and timeless poetry, TONE features vocalist Sarah Elizabeth Charles and pianist Jarrett Cherner. Charles is a rising vocalist/composer based in New York City. She has played at The White House, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, the Bern International Jazz Festival, and many more. Brooklyn-based pianist, composer and bandleader Jarrett Cherner has captivated listeners with his lyricism, technical facility and consistently evolving musical vision. All proceeds support the creation of a searchable digital archive for the preservation of local history, $10, Skidompha Public Library, 184 Main Street, Damariscotta. FMI: 207-563-5513, www.skidompha.org.
Feb. 22, Friday, 7pm, “Appalachian Trail Magic,” after hiking 600 miles, the hand-written words on a rustic campsite privy said it best: ”Willpower is greater than strength or agility.” Most thru-hikers on the 2,190-mile Appalachian Trail would agree. When 24 year-old Chloë Rowse started her solo hike in February of 2018, she was prepared for the tough days. What she didn’t expect was the incredible kindness from the strangers that would make the difference between reaching the top of Mt. Katahdin or surrendering to the harsh realities of the trail. Join us for an evening of stories about the generosity of “trail angels” – the good samaritans who support hikers year after year along the Appalachian Trail, helping them persevere through the physical and emotional challenges of their journeys, free, L.L. Bean, 95 Main Street, Freeport. FMI: www.llbean.com.
Feb. 22, Friday, 7pm, “House Concert featuring Lissa Schneckenburger,” the traditional music of New England can be as warm and comforting as a winter fire or as potent and exhilarating as a summer thunderstorm. Fiddler and singer Lissa Schneckenburger is a master of both moods, a winsome, sweet-voiced singer who brings new life to old ballads and a skillful, dynamic fiddler who captures the driving rhythm and carefree joy of dance tunes old and new. For this evening’s show Lissa will be joined onstage by her husband, bassist Corey DiMario, and perhaps (fingers crossed!) members of the Gawler Family. Refreshments will be provided. Reservations are required, $10-$20/suggested donation, Belfast Cohousing & Ecovillage, 25 Village Road, Belfast. FMI: 207-218-1027, sites.google.com/view/bcechc/home?authuser=0.
