Feb. 23-24, Saturday-Sunday, 8am-4pm, “Winter Foraging: Wild Plants for Food, Medicine, and Utility,” foraging for food, medicine, and utility from the plants, trees, shrubs, vines, and fungi during winter provides a great foundation for the seasonal evolution of year round foraging. Join us as we make tasty dishes, effective herbal health products, and even gather fibers from the frozen landscape. Feb. 23, Saturday, 5am-6pm, “Snow Pond Ice Fishing Derby,” hosted by All Belgrade Lakes Fishing Derby, Maine Wilderness Tours, and Snow Pond Center for the Arts. Weigh-in at Snow Pond Center for the Arts, 8 Goldenrod Lane. Record-breaking northern pike wins 2019 snowmobile; door prize set of five Max Traps. After weigh-in, eat dinner 4-6 p.m. for $5. As they depict the journey of a young girl and her quest to find her best friend, you may just find yourself believing in malevolent mirrors, yetis, talking reindeer, and snow chickens! Feb. 23, Saturday, 7pm, “Vagina Monologues,” this small but dramatically funny, tender, provocative and ultimately political book is a series of interviews with a diverse group of over 200 women. It is a series of character-driven pieces, almost like poetry, each revealing a different woman’s experience with topics such as sex, love, tenderness, embarrassment, cruelty, pain, and pleasure. The Vagina Monologues won an Obie Award in 1997. Dawn Sullivan will direct this year’s show. Feb. 24, Sunday, 3pm, “Renaissance Men: RenMentality,” Renaissance Men will explore sacred and secular compositions by those who suffered with mental and behavioral disorders, including works by Schumann, Beethoven, Ives, Monteverdi, and Mussorgsky. American composer Jay Mobley, composer will premiere a major work for male voices based on written testimonials from those in moments of crisis. A concert in three acts, each will be introduced a song from Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged in New York album, featuring the songs of Kurt Cobain, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2018. Renaissance Men has partnered with National Alliance on Mental Illness Massachusetts (NAMI Massachusetts) to find people who have been affected by mental health issues in some way, both people with lived experience, their family and friends. Their testimony will be the inspiration for Jay Mobley’s composition. Pre-concert lecture by Director of Choirs and Renaissance Men Artistic Director, Eric Christopher Perry at 1:45 PM.
