Nov. 8, Thursday, 7pm, “An Eye for Detail, Paul Doiron and Kristen Lindquist with Monica Wood” the Maine Studies Program at the University of Maine welcomes crime novelist Paul Doiron, author of the Mike Bowditch mystery series, and poet Kristen Lindquist, author of three books of poetry, to read from their work. They will be joined onstage by musicians Susan Ramsey and Ruth Fogg, with accompanying images from artist Evelyn Dunphy. Monica Wood will then interview the authors onstage. Book sales and signings at the event. Nov. 9-10, Friday-Saturday, 7pm, “Working, the Musical,” a musical with a book by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, music by Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Mary Rodgers, and James Taylor, and lyrics by Schwartz, Carnelia, Grant, Taylor, and Susan Birkenhead. The musical is based on the Studs Terkel book Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do (1974), which has interviews with people from different regions and occupations, admission by donation, Nokomis Regional High School, Williams Road, Newport. Nov. 9, Friday, 7pm, “Andrew McNight in Concert,” award-winning singer, songwriter and story-teller, McKnight’s solo performances are inspiring and entertaining, delivered with warmth and humor. Nov. 10, Saturday, 1pm, “The Met: Live in HD-Marnie,” composer Nico Muhly unveils his second new opera for the Met with this gripping reimagining of Winston Graham’s novel, set in the 1950s, about a beautiful, mysterious young woman who assumes multiple identities. Director Michael Mayer and his creative team have devised a fast-moving, cinematic world for this exhilarating story of denial and deceit, which also inspired a film by Alfred Hitchcock. Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard sings the enigmatic Marnie, and baritone Christopher Maltman is the man who pursues her—with disastrous results. Nov. 10, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Stray Cats Bassist Lee Rocker,” rockabilly music legend, Lee Rocker and his band, will be performing for one night only at Husson University’s Gracie Theatre, this Grammy-nominated member of the legendary music group Stray Cats will perform some of the band’s signature hits like “Sexy and Seventeen”, “Stray Cat Strut” and “Rock This Town.” Original songs, and hits by Elvis and Carl Perkins will also be included in the concert performance, Gracie Theater, Husson University, 1 College Circle, Bangor. Nov. 11, Sunday, 3pm, “Pianist Jane Coop,” Canadian pianist Jane Coop will share an evening of chamber music including the music of Beethoven and Rachmaninoff.
