Mar. 11, Friday, 7pm, “Duncan Cumming and the Capital Trio,” Concert artist and teacher Duncan Cumming joins violinist Hilary Walther Cumming and cellist Şölen Dickener in concert when their Capital Trio returns to the Gendron Franco Center to present the fourth recital of the Center’s 10th Piano Series season. The all-Beethoven program will begin with Sonata for violin and piano in D major, Op. 12, No. 1, and Sonata for cello and piano in A major, Op. 69; the program concludes with Piano Trio in G major, Op.1, No. 2. In residence at the University at Albany since 1977, the trio has performed to great acclaim throughout the Eastern United States and in Europe. Maine native Duncan Cumming is a Bates College graduate and a long-time student and protégé of Frank Glazer, with whom he presented a four-hands concert here. Mar.13, Sunday, 12:55pm, “The Bolshoi Ballet: Spartacus,” In ancient Rome, Spartacus, a Thracian king, is turned captive by Crassus with his wife Phrygia. Forced to fight as a gladiator and kill one of his friends, Spartacus plots an unprecedented upheaval. Grigorovich’s Spartacus was created at the Bolshoi in 1968 and has since remained the Russian company’s signature ballet. This most spectacular production is an epic tour de force, giving full expression to the virility and strengh for which the Bolshoi’s male dancers are renowned. Principal dancer Mikhail Lobukhin is stunning in the role of the legendary gladiator, along with Svetlana Zakharova as Aegina and Vladislav Lantratov as Crassus. Mar. 13, Sunday, 2pm, “Dave Rowe with The Squid Jiggers,” This concert will include both the easy listening originals of singer/songwriter Dave Rowe and the robust vocal harmonies of Dave Rowe and Troy R. Bennett as The Squid Jiggers. Dave Rowe, son of Tom Rowe of the popular folk group Schooner Fare, started in “the family business” early on and added songwriting to playing.
