Pastoral Setting of Sidensparker Pond in Waldoboro, Maine

Sidensparker Pond, in Waldoboro, Maine, provides lakefront property owners with a quiet, pastoral setting in the Mid Coast Lakes Region. Apparently the name was a surname of early descendants who hailed from a German town with a similar name–though the spelling evolved and changed over the years.

Encompassing 154 acres, this great pond is part of the St. George River drainage. It has a maximum depth of 14 feet, with a mean depth of 6 feet. The pond is home to two state-threatened freshwater mussel species: the tidewater mucket (Leptodeaochracea) and yellow lampmussel (Lampsilis cariosa).
What type of fish will I catch? This warmwater fishery provides ideal habitat for largemouth bass, which were legally introduced in 1958. Chain pickerel and white perch round out the fishery.
The setting for Sidensparker Pond is pastoral, which equates to a lower amount of development than some ponds. Canoe or kayak the 2.5 mile perimeter and you’ll soon appreciate the serenity to be found here. No public access adds to the tranquility.
Own a classic Maine cottage or farmhouse on Sidensparker Pond and let your worries fall away. Sleep late, eat well, (think blueberry fields nearby and lobster or another fresh catch of the day from oceanfront docks), take long walks, swim, paddle, strum the guitar, tell campfire stories.
And when you do want to rejoin civilization, it’s only minutes away. Waldoboro is an historic seaside village that was incorporated in 1773. During the 19th century, it became a ship building center on the Medomak River. It’s home to the Waldo Theatre, which offers a wide range of entertainment for all ages, Borealis Breads, where each loaf is “an edible work of art,” and the quintessential  Moody’s Diner, still a Maine favorite over 80 years after it first opened–we highly recommend that you save room for pie.
And when you really want to rejoin civilization, think of the following: Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, home to three generations of Wyeth paintings as well as other 19th and 20th century artwork; Samoset Golf Course at Samoset Resort, also in Rockland, this is one of Maine’s finest courses; and all the galleries, museums, restaurants, shops and outdoor adventures that the Penobscot Bay Region has to offer.
Waldoboro is located in the Maine Summer Tourist Corridor of Route 1, between Rockland and Bath. It’s only 3 hours and twenty minutes from Boston and an hour and twenty minutes from Portland–just enough time to transition from your hectic city life to the laid-back life on the pond.
