Toddy Pond, Brooks and Swanville, Maine: Make Time and Make Memories at your Lakefront Property

Toddy Pond

Tranquil waters of Toddy Pond in Brooks and Swanville, Maine

Toddy Pond in Brooks and Swanville, Maine, is a hidden treasure for lakefront property owners in the Mid Coast Region of Maine. Located only 8 miles from Belfast and the Atlantic Ocean,  and an hour and a half from Acadia National Park, it’s perfect for a quiet escape. Situated not far from Route 1 and the Maine Turnpike, it’s also easy to reach from both Portland (2 hours) and Boston (4 hours).

The pond encompasses 162 acres and has a maximum depth of 25 feet, with a mean depth of 13 feet. There are no known invasive aquatic infestations and the water quality is above average. The 4.1 mile perimeter is fun to explore. Being small in size, the waves don’t get large, so even on a windy day, you can explore the pond via canoe or kayak.

This is also a great place for sport fishing. Rocky shoals offer prime habitat for smallmouth bass. Chain pickerel and white perch round out the fishery. Motor boats with more than 10 horsepower are prohibited from Toddy Pond.
Think summer nights at your classic Maine camp, cabin or cottage: star gazing, s’mores and stories told ‘round the campfire. Winter means snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling on local trails maintained by the Harvest Valley Snowmobile Club.
The surrounding villages of Brooks and Swanville are pastoral and scenic. With a population of 1,078, Brooks is home to the Country View Golf Club, a nine-hole golf course, Marsh River Theater,  Brooks Community Park where Independence Day Celebrations and other activities are held, JP Wentworth’s General Store and Ralph’s Cafe. In Swanville, with a population of 1,388, groceries and other necessities can be found at the Swan Lake Store.
Railroad buffs will appreciate that the Brooks Preservation Society has among its objectives: “The preservation of the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad corridor running through Waldo County, the preservation and restoration of the Brooks Railroad Station, and the preservation of several historical Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad locomotives, railcars, and MOW equipment. To that end we have formed the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railway and offer weekend excursions during our operational season.”
Although often overlooked, the hidden treasure of Toddy Pond will provide you with an escape as you relax on the water in perfect peace. Make time and make memories.
