Tilden Pond, Belmont, Maine: Lakefront Property Owners Enjoy Unhurried Pace

Crystal Clear Water of Tilden Pond in the Midcoast Region of Maine

Tilden Pond in the Midcoast town of Belmont, Maine, may be small in size, but it’s beyond large in beauty. If you are looking for an escape located away from it all, yet rather close to it all, Tilden Pond may be your choice for waterfront real estate. Tilden Pond is only three hours from Boston and one hour from Portland.

Encompassing 357 acres, the pond has a maximum depth of 11 feet, with a mean depth of 8 feet. What kind of fish will I catch? This warmwater fishery features smallmouth bass, chain pickerel and white perch. Expect lots of action when you cast your line.

The pond’s 3.9 mile perimeter is waiting to be explored by kayak or canoe. There are no known aquatic invasives. Wildlife abounds in the form of loons, turtles, bald eagles, wild turkeys, otters and more. Oh my!
Settled in the 1800s and incorporated in 1814, Belmont has long been a farming community. In the early 20th century, Horace Chenery owned “The Pastures,” a model dairy farm that bordered Tilden Pond. Between the creamery at The Pastures and other farms throughout the town that Chenery acquired, he was a major employer. Today, Creative Apparel Associates, which manufactures chemical-protection garments and other specialty clothing for military and commercial customers, is one of the town’s largest employers.
But you won’t be thinking of employment when you’re sitting on the screened porch of your classic Maine cabin, cottage or camp along the shore of Tilden Pond. Instead, think coffee in the morning, sunsets in the evening and loons at night. A slice of heaven.
Enjoy the unhurried pace of Belmont or travel a few miles to the nearby towns of Belfast and Camden for amenities and activities. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are only ninety minutes away.
One thing waterfront property owners are sure to appreciate is the low tax rate of Belmont. There’s no time like the present to give up the rat race and escape to the beauty and peace of Tilden Pond.
