Cold Stream Pond in Enfield, Maine: A Lakefront Vacation The Way it Should Be

Spring-fed Cold Stream Pond in the Lincoln Lakes Region of Maine

Cold Stream Pond in Enfield, Lincoln and Lowell, Maine, is renowned for its peace and quiet, crystal clear water and fresh air–offering lakefront property owners a vacation the way it should be. It’s the perfect place to retreat to your classic Maine camp and get away from the routine.

Though it’s called a pond, covering 3,628 acres in total, Cold Stream Pond is actually a cold, spring-fed lake with two distinct basins. The North Basin encompasses 2,924 acres and has a maximum depth of 104 feet, while the South Basin covers 704 acres and has a maximum depth of 56 feet. The mean depth is forty feet.  The basins are separated by a ridge of land called “The Bluff.” The two are connected by a narrows.
Anglers delight in this waterbody, which is home to some of the area’s best game fishing for trophy salmon, lake and brook trout. While lake trout and brook trout are native to the lake, landlocked salmon were first introduced in 1876. A public boat launch is located on Old Hatchery Road off Route 188 in Enfield.
The Cold Stream Pond Campowners’ Association has the mission “to educate the public about shoreline protection and water quality issues.”  The water quality of Cold Stream Pond is above average.

Each year through their Water Quality Grant Program, a $1,500 award is given for projects that address water quality issues on camp roads and along the shoreline. It’s these lakefront homeowners who are taking care to make sure the water quality testing results for Cold Stream Pond continue to be excellent that help make this a special vacation destination. You can enjoy quality time swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking on this pristine lake.
Sip your morning coffee on the dock, watch the sunset from your screened-in porch, and listen to the tremolo call of the loon as you head into dreamland. Cold Stream Pond is a place to slow down and appreciate the simple things in life.
While Enfield and Lowell are small villages, Lincoln is the retail hub and offers everything you need. The central location of Cold Stream Pond is also within an easy drive to all that Maine has to offer. It’s 45 minutes to white water rafting on the Penobscot, or Baxter State Park and Mount Katahdin. About ninety minutes away is Acadia, the Bar Harbor Region and Coastal Maine.
