A Picture Perfect Day for Boating on Sebago Lake, Maine
Richardson’s Boat Yard on Sebago Lake in Standish, Maine, has been a family-run business for over 50 years. This full-service marina was started in 1921 by Arthur F. Richardson. It’s been passed from generation to generation and today is owned by the fourth generation team of Rick and Jeff.
With
two locations–the marina on Whites Bridge Road in Standish, and an annex on Route 302 in Windham–the Richardsons offer complete marina services, showrooms, a full service department, factory-trained mechanics, winter storage, transportation, dock facilities, marine store, private boat ramps and bathroom and shower facilities. When you arrive, expect to be greeted by a dog or two or three.
In their showroom, you’ll always find new arrivals, including Chaparral pleasure boats, Bennington pontoon boats,
Lund fishing boats, Sea-Doo personal watercraft, Ski-Doo snowmobiles and Load-Rite trailers. They also have brokerage and pre-owned inventory.
The staff is known for creating friendships that last a lifetime. They’ll maintain an on-going dialogue with you, take their time to explain everything, complete test runs and follow-up with any sales. They’ve got
years of experience to share.
Located in
the basin, the marina has about 300 boat slips and is easy to get to via car or boat. This location provides protection from the rougher waters of the main portion of the lake.
Sebago Lake is the second largest lake in Maine and third largest in New England.
The Indian name, “Sebago,” means “Great Stretch of Water.” This water stretches
eight miles wide and twelve miles long. At its deepest point, the water depth is 316 feet. Once on the water, you’ll have so many places to explore from Jordan Bay to the Songo River and on up to Brandy Pond and Long Lake. Expect breathtaking views, crystal clear water and abundant wildlife when you boat on Sebago.
And the fish–did I mention that Sebago is one of the
top smallmouth bass lakes in the country? Because they also like to fish, ask the staff at Richardsons for some advice.
It’s only a half hour from Portland to Standish and
2.25 hours from Boston–easy enough for a getaway to relax and unwind. During the day, explore one of the several islands, wakeboard in the basin or fish in a cove. And at the end of the day, retreat to your lakefront camp, cabin or cottage on Sebago Lake.
