May 27, Saturday, 6:30pm, “Rick’s 5K Run,” created in memory of Richard A. Roy. Rick was a Vietnam Veteran who served his country proudly, yet suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He lived with this burden daily throughout his life until he passed unexpectedly in 2013. All who knew and loved him saw the emotional hidden wounds of that sacrifice. We are learning more each day about PTSD and how to help veterans who suffer with this disorder. May 29, Monday, 10am, “Biddeford Saco Memorial Day Parade,” the day begins with an Opening Ceremony at 10 AM at Biddeford’s Veterans Memorial Park on the corner of Alfred and Pool Street. The ceremony will feature guest speaker U.S. Senator Angus King. Senator King was recently presented the Navy’s highest civilian honor, the Distinguished Public Service Award, in recognition of his commitment to the Navy, Marine Corps, and Department of the Navy as a whole. He serves on the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, among others. Following the ceremony, the parade will proceed from Alfred Street to Main Street, then on to Saco’s Main Street. The Master of Ceremony will be Marshall Archer of AmVets Post #1, and Grand Marshall will be Joseph Armstrong.
