Long Lake and the Songo River Queen, Naples, Maine
The town of Naples hosts the annual Maine Blues Fest–Always Father’s Day Weekend–with Long Lake and Brandy Pond as a beautiful backdrop.
Centered around one of America’s most enduring musical forms, the blues, this family-friendly event began in 2006. From Friday night through Sunday afternoon, the festival brings more than 40 regional and local acts to over 10 stages, including Bray’s Brew Pub, Freedom Cafe and The Umbrella Factory. Blues cruises and dockside entertainment occurs throughout the event on the Songo River Queen II, a Mississippi-style paddleboat.
From names like The Big Daddys, Bellamy Jazz Band, Blue Steel Express, Blue Willow Band, Blues in the Works, The Blues Prophets, Bonnie Edwards and the Practical Cats, Brad Hooper, Dave Mello, Denny Breau, Jimmy and the Soulcats, Juke Joint Devils, Memphis Lightning, New Blues Revue and Rick Miller and His Band, you can expect raw-boned guitar riffs and emotionally charged voices.
The Maine Blues Fest occurs rain or shine. Shuttle buses and taxi service are available. Along with the music, an antique and classic car show takes place at the town beach. Vendors and children’s activities can be found throughout town.
While you’re in Naples, check out the new causeway bridge that replaced the swing bridge–no more long waits for boats to pass through. The town is proud of its new look, which includes green space, a boardwalk that leads under the bridge and an amphitheater.
With a backdrop of Long Lake and Brandy Pond, the setting is spectacular for this annual blues intrusion.
Long Lake, an 11-mile ribbon of blue, is the northern link in the chain of lakes that includes Brandy Pond and Sebago Lake and is bordered by three area towns: Naples, Bridgton, and Harrison.
Kick off the summer season by swaying to the rhythm at the Maine Blues Fest.
