Sept. 15, Friday, 5-8pm, “L/A Art Walk,” Autumn is in the air and with a fair weather forecast, this month’s Art Walk LA will be featuring a busy schedule of events, indoors and out. Auburn’s Festival Plaza will host the annual Red Table Event, a community picnic. At One Great Falls Plaza, directly opposite Auburn City Hall, visitors can enjoy readings by children’s author Emily Coye, “Be a Masterpiece” (Mona Lisa, Girl With a Pearl Earring or Van Gogh), a pop up selfie booth, and the “Community Masterpiece” art project. At Auburn Public Library, fiber artist Cheryl Whitmore will be displaying her quilts and the Maine Music Society Chamber Singers will be performing at 7:00pm, free, Downtown, Lisbon Street, Lewiston. Sept. 15, Friday, 6:30pm, “Studio Two- The Beatles Tribute Live,” a headlining Beatles band that pays tribute to the early Beatles years, choosing songs from the pre-Sgt. Pepper era. Hailed as “New England’s Best Beatles Tribute Band” by The British Beer Company, Beatles tribute band, Studio Two, continues its tour in celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Beatles coming to America. Featuring graduates from Berklee College of Music and Beatles devotees, Studio Two band mates met in a “cellar full of noise” in a town slightly west of Liverpool (Milford, New Hampshire!) to pay homage to the greatest rock band of all time. Band members are experienced musicians of today’s generation dedicated to preserving the memory and fan culture of The Beatles generation. Sept. 15-17, Friday-Sunday, 7:30pm/Fri. and Sat, 2pm/Sun, “Calendar Girls,” When Annie’s husband John dies of leukemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for their local hospital. They manage to persuade four friends to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar. The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley. The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame. Sept. 16, Saturday, 7:30pm, “New York Balalaika Duo,” The New York Balalaika Duo performs on Russian folk instruments, the balalaika (a triangular stringed instrument) and garmoshka (button accordion). Performers Mikhail Smirnov and Elina Karokhina will present a concert of favorite Russian songs like “Kalinka”, “Korobushka”, and “Ochi Chernye” (Dark Eyes), as well as lesser-known authentic folk songs collected in many different regions of Russia such as Tver, Smolensk, Belgorod, and the Don River region, free, Studzinski Recital Hall, Bowdoin College, 21 College Street, Brunswick. Sept. 16, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Comedian Johnny Ater,” Whether he’s taking light-hearted swipes at himself and his fellow Mainers, or contorting his face into hilarious characters, Ater has left audiences laughing throughout New England and beyond since 2003. He’s performed at the Punchline in San Francisco and headlined the Maine Comedy Festival. Ater has also appeared on ‘The Nite Show with Danny Cashman’ and recently provided voice-over work for an Agren Appliance television campaign. Neales has worn a hat while slinging jokes at Boston’s Comedy Studio, the Maine Comedy Festival and The Ice House in Pasadena, CA.
