July 4, Thursday, 8am, “Four on the Fourth Road Race,” The race attracts a growing and faithful group of runners – now approaching 2100 runners, the course limit – from more than 35 states and numerous foreign countries. July 6, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Don Campbell Concert,” singer-songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose music is inspired by sources as diverse as the Celtic and Canadian Maritimes music of his family to Dan Fogelberg, Vince Gill, the Beatles and novelist, Stephen King. Writing in genres including adult contemporary, country, Celtic, Christmas, bluegrass, and rock, Don has released 12 CDs, most recently a two-disc, 23-song collection, “Kites To Fly: Celebrating The Music Of Dan Fogelberg”. Co-based in Portland, Maine and Nashville, TN, Don averages between 150-200 performances per year primarily with the New England-based Don Campbell Band and smaller ensembles, including the nationally touring Restless Campbells. July 9, Tuesday, 9am-12pm, “Invasive Plant Patrol-Plant Paddle,” a 3-hour guided exploration that takes place on shore and on the water. This is a fun, informal way to learn about Maine’s native aquatic plants, as well as the invasive aquatic plants that threaten these beautiful and ecologically-important habitats. Participants will each receive a free “Quick Key to Ruling Out Maine’s Eleven Most Unwanted Invasive Aquatic Plants,” and will the practice skills needed to spot suspicious plants while out recreating on the water. July 10, Wednesday, 6:30pm, “An Evening of Poetry with Maine Poet Laureate, Stuart Kestenbaum,” Stuart’s poetry often touches on themes of place, community, and human connection and we are pleased to have him as part of our summer Connections theme. Biography: Stuart Kestenbaum is the author of five collections of poems, Pilgrimage (Coyote Love Press), House of Thanksgiving (Deerbrook Editions), Prayers and Run-on Sentences (Deerbrook Editions) Only Now (Deerbrook Editions) and How to Start Over (Deerbrook Editions). He has also written The View from Here (Brynmorgen Press), a book of brief essays on craft and community. He has written and spoken widely on craft making and creativity, and his poems and writing have appeared in numerous small press publications and magazines including Tikkun, the Sun, and the Beloit Poetry Journal.
