July 4-7 and 10, Thursday-Sunday and Wednesday, 8pm/Thurs.-Sat, 4pm/Sun, 2pm and 7pm/Wed, “Ghost of a Chance,” Bethany is bright, strong, independent, beautiful and has zero self-esteem. She has brought her fiancé, Floyd, and his mother, Verna, up to her cabin in the woods, the site of the hunting accident that killed Chance, her first husband. Much to her consternation, he or rather, his ghost is still there. Only Bethany can see him, so Floyd and Verna think she is crazy as she frantically tries to get rid of, well, it seems to them nobody. Chance, meanwhile, is doing everything he can to prevent Bethany from marrying Floyd. Bethany even brings in a delightfully kooky psychic to help deal with the ghost of Chance. July 5, Friday, 5:30pm, “Waterville Rocks! With Kat Wright & Katie Matzell,” family-friendly concert, Kat Wright, whose voice is both sultry and dynamic, delicate yet powerful; gritty but highly emotive and nuanced, has been described as “a young Bonnie Raitt meets Amy Winehouse”. Katie Matzell is an up-and-coming singer and songwriter from Portland, Maine who released her debut EP at the start of 2018. MaineToday called the debut “fierce and dazzling,” adding that Matzell’s vocals are “sweet, full and gorgeous”. An annual community celebration of all-things-music held in the great outdoors. Highlights include a beer garden, outdoor dining at The Proper Pig, and the ice cream truck from Stone Fox Creamery. July 5, Friday, 7pm, “Atlantic Music Festival,” Trio Fibonacci made its first appearance on the Canadian music scene in 1998, with the press reporting that “to hear them is to enter into the world of miracles” (Le Devoir, Montreal). The Trio Fibonacci has been guided by some of the world’s most respected chamber musicians, including Menahem Pressler, members of the Alban Berg, Guarneri and Vermeer String Quartets, and by their mentors Eberhard Feltz and Michael Vogler in Berlin. Trio Fibonacci is internationally recognized for its brilliant interpretations of the entire piano trio repertoire, from the works of Haydn through to collaborations with over forty living composers on four continents. Their concert tours have led them to Argentina, South Africa, Brazil, Japan, Berlin, San Francisco, New York, and several European countries. July 6, Saturday, 8pm, “The Peking Acrobats,” For the last 32 years, The Peking Acrobats have redefined audience perceptions of Chinese acrobatics. They perform daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs and display their technical prowess at such arts as trick-cycling, precision tumbling, juggling, somersaulting, and gymnastics. They push the limits of human ability, defying gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibility, and control. The Peking Acrobats are often accompanied by live musicians who skillfully play traditional Chinese instruments; the time-honored Chinese music coalesces with high-tech special effects and awe-inspiring acrobatic feats, creating an exuberant entertainment event with the festive pageantry of a Chinese Carnival, $32-$43, Waterville Opera House, 1 Common Street, Waterville.
