“Wildflower Celebration,” McLaughlin Garden and Homestead, South Paris

May 10-12, Friday-Sunday, 10am-4pm, “Wildflower Celebration,” kick off the gardening season at the annual Wildflower Celebration at the McLaughlin Garden and Homestead. May 11, Saturday, 10am-2:30pm, “Archery & Riflery with Bryant Pond 4-H Shooting Sports,” certified instructors will have archery & rifle ranges set up to try a hand at the family sport. Ages 9 & up will have a chance to shoot a bow, learn basic safety & practice shooting skills from 10am to noon. The pellet rifle experience will be offered from 12:30-2:30pm for age 10 & up. Visit with Patty in her kitchen and enjoy a cup of tea while she reflects about her life, ten children and their remarkable achievements. Afterwards, she will give you a tour of the home her sons built in 1867. Washburn-Norlands Living History Center preserves the heritage and traditions of rural life in Maine’s past, celebrates the achievements of Livermore’s Washburn family, and uses living history methods to make values, activities, and issues of the past relevant to present and future generations. Highlights include: Lewiston native Mark Turcotte, loveably irreverent, his Maine Event Comedy shows have single handedly turned Maine into a thriving home for comedy. When Boston’s Shawn Carter is not headlining comedy clubs and colleges he’s busy running the rooms that are creating the next generation of Boston comics. May 11, Saturday, 9pm, “Maine Event Comedy presents Andrew Della Volpe,” the show will also feature Mike Gray, Joe Flynn, and Regan Sweeney. Della Volpe got his start in comedy as an intern at Sacha Baron Cohen’s Four by Two Films. He recently opened for Theo Von at Boston’s Wilbur Theatre and has performed at The Comedy Studio, The Comedy Scene in Foxborough, and ImprovBoston. Gray is living proof that a horrible childhood can turn into an equally horrible adulthood. He performs throughout New England and was a finalist in the 2017 Best Bar Comic Competition. Flynn, a likable curmudgeon from Salem, Mass., recently performed at Comix at Mohegan Sun was a runner-up in the Witch City Comedy Competition. Sweeney became a lawyer to enhance his comedy career.
