Apr. 25, Thursday, 5:30pm, “Experimental and Electronic Music,” the performers, Aldrich, Norton and Ross are a trio of Maine-based musicians who perform experimental and electronic music. The group includes Nate Aldrich (recordings), Steve Norton (reed instruments and electronics) and Leslie Ross (bassoon and electronics). Apr. 26-27, Friday-Saturday, 7pm, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” this successful Broadway musical revue, with book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts has been performed in theatres across the country since it first opened in 1966. This celebration of love and the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind the concept known as “relationships” with insight and humor. Act One explores the journey from dating to marriage, while Act Two reveals the agonies and triumphs of in-laws, newborns, families and geriatric pick-up techniques. This hilarious revue pays tribute to those who have loved, those who have loved and lost, and those who have fallen head-over-heels in love only to fall flat on their face. Performing in the show are Husson students enrolled in the University’s Musical Theatre Performance class. Apr. 26-28, Friday-Saturday, 7:30pm/Fri. and Sat, 20pm/Sat. and Sun, “Sweeney Todd,” Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to London seeking vengeance against the lecherous Judge Turpin who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, the resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires a new ingredient for her meat pies that has the people of London lining up and the carnage has only just begun. Apr. 28, Sunday, 3pm, “University of Maine Singers present Handel’s Messiah,” the University of Maine Singers, under the direction of Francis John Vogt, will perform George Frideric Handel’s beloved oratorio Messiah. They will be joined by an orchestra of School of Performing Arts faculty, students, and regional professionals.
