This year marks the 66th year that Kora Shriner’s have brought the circus to town putting on astonishing performances, displaying awe-inspiring feats of athleticism, and even elephant rides! Apr. 19, Friday, 7pm, “The Bookey Readings: Poetry Out Loud,” a monthly poetry series running from April through November. For over 25 years, this series has offered a unique experience of excellent spoken word in an art gallery setting. For April’s event, The Harlow is participating in Poetry Out Loud, featuring students from local high schools including Gardiner, Hall-Dale, Cony, and Winthrop. Apr. 20, Saturday, 12pm, “The Met: Die Walkure,” This is an encore HD broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Running time: 4 hours, 55 minutes (2 intermissions). In what is expected to be a Wagnerian event for the ages, soprano Christine Goerke plays Brünnhilde, Wotan’s willful warrior daughter, who loses her immortality in opera’s most famous act of filial defiance. Tenor Stuart Skelton and soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek play the incestuous twins Siegmund and Sieglinde. Greer Grimsley sings Wotan. Apr. 20, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Maine Event Comedy,” an evening of hilarious stand-up comedy! Give your funny bone a workout as some of New England’s funniest comics take the stage and present their unique brand of humor. You’ll hear jokes about life in Maine, the meaning of life – and everything in between. Each show will feature three comedians, last for approximately 90 minutes. Apr. 20, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Potpourri-Colby Wind Ensemble,” directed by Eric Thomas, a showcase of music that is fun to play will be performed by Colby Wind Ensemble.
