Feb. 1, Friday, 3pm, “Baroque Pearls & Romantic Gems,” OceanView at Falmouth invites you to join us for a fantastic night of music at “Baroque Pearls & Romantic Gems”, a Valentines concert. Esteemed Maine musicians, violinist Ronald Lantz and pianist Laura Kargul, will play compositions spanning the Baroque era to the twentieth century. Lantz and Kargul first performed together in the Portland String Quartet, and the duo’s annual Valentines-themed recitals have been enjoyed by large Portland audiences – many of whom have returned year-after-year. Feb. 2, Saturday, 10am-3pm, “Chinese New Year Celebration,” the Chinese and American Friendship Association of Maine (CAFAM) and the University of Southern Maine Confucius Institute will ring in the Year of the Pig. The celebration will open with a Lion Dance by Steve Wong of Bangor who will also perform throughout the day. The feature event is the Chinese dance performance by the children of the CAFAM Chinese School at 11:00 a.m. The Chinese School students will also perform a Dragon Dance at noon. Chinese exchange students at Thornton Academy will also perform traditional Chinese dance and play traditional Chinese musical instruments after lunch. There will also be a traditional Chinese music performance by Zhantao Lin, a professional Erhu musician All day, children can make pig themed crafts. Vendors will be selling books, Chinese teas, and Chinese crafts and products. There will be delicious Chinese food will be available. There will be a discussion of Tai Chi and Chinese medicine. There is plenty of free parking.
