Feb. 1, Friday, 7pm, “Fishing Glacier National Park,” through video, photographs and his own words, Matthew Dickerson will share some of his experiences spending four consecutive weeks in Glacier National Park (Montana) as the June 2017 Artist-in-Residence. Dickerson spent time with rangers, National Park Service fisheries biologists, USGS fisheries and aquatic invertebrate biologists, studying river and stream ecology, with a focus on the protection and restoration of the park’s iconic native westslope cutthroat trout and bull trout. Along with more general observations about the park, he will share some of what he has learned about the past, present and future of these fish and the rivers where they live, including some beautiful underwater videography of wild cutthroat, free, L.L. Feb. 2, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations,” Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations will bring down the house at the Unitarian Universalist with a powerful mix of Motown/Memphis Soul. Feb. 2, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Resinosa Ensemble ‘Prelude to a dream…,” a recently formed chamber trio featuring Joëlle Morris, mezzo-soprano, Eliza Meyer, cello and Bridget Convey, piano. Feb. 6, Wednesday, 12:15-1:45pm, “MSC Winter Wisdom-Greece before the Odyssey: Myth and Realities,” in Book 3 of the Odyssey, Homer describes the royal palace of King Nestor at Pylos, in southwestern Greece. This talk will explore the Bronze Age reality behind that epic vision – the earliest Greek history we possess – from the discovery of Nestor’s palace in 1939, to current excavations in Iklaina, one of the towns in his kingdom. Cynthia W. Shelmerdine is Robert M. Armstrong Centennial Professor of Classics, emerita at the University of Texas at Austin, and a Research Associate in Classics at Bowdoin College. Her main research focuses on Aegean Bronze Age archaeology, and the language, history and society of Mycenaean Greece. Feb. 6, Wednesday, 6:30-7:30pm, “18th Annual Chocolate Bash,” indulge in a plate heavy with delectable, handmade treats made especially for the chocolate tasting. Bring the whole family for a confectionery feast or share a plate for a cheap date!
