Dec. 20-22, Thursday-Friday, 7pm, “Humbug! A Spirited Christmas Carol,” set in the 1940’s, a touring company of misfit performers get snowbound in a small town they’re supposed to perform A Christmas Carol in. With half the cast missing and a mismatched collection of costumes, props and set pieces, they attempt to perform the Dickens’ classic- even though off-stage shenanigans make it hilariously difficult. Full of humor, heart and a happy ending, this world premiere comedy will capture your inner Humbug and fill you with the Christmas spirit, $15-$20, Pay-what-you-can/Thursday, Footlights Theatre, 190 US Route 1, Falmouth. Dec. 21 and 22, Friday and Saturday, 7pm/Fri, 2pm/Sat, “Oratorio Chorale: Sing We Noel,” the Oratorio Chorale and Sweetest in the Gale with organist Bruce Fithian and harpist Mo Nichols will present an hour-long celebration and inspiring prelude to the season for listeners of all ages, with organ music, traditional and folk carols as well as sing-along carols, and music by Monteverdi, Benjamin Britten, Stephen Paulus, and others. Dec. 21-23, Thursday-Friday, 7:30pm/Fri. and Sat, 2pm/Sat. and Sun, “The Victorian Nutcracker,” Portland Ballet’s ‘The Victorian Nutcracker’ will return just in time for Christmas. This annual production has become a Maine holiday tradition and family favorite. More than 80 children from the greater Portland community will join the company dancers onstage for a magical show, $22-$55, Westbrook Performing Arts Center, Stroudwater Street, Westbrook. Dec. 21, Friday, 8pm, “Lori McKenna,” one of only five solo women to win the CMA award for “Song of the Year” and the first woman to win two years in a row. In 2017, she became the first woman in the 52 year history of ACM Awards to win “Songwriter of the Year”. In 2017 she again won Best Country Song at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards for “Humble and Kind” performed by Tim McGraw. Dec. 22, Friday, 3:15-5:15pm, “Sunset/Moonrise Hike,” Each month, there is one night when the sunset and moonrise are just minutes apart. When conditions allow, nothing is more fun than seeing both from a mountain top! Join Loon Echo Staff for a hike to the top of Bald Pate to witness the sunset and the moonrise. Conditions on the ground may require snowshoes, or traction devices. Adequate layers of clothing, snacks and water are recommended. Meet at the Bald Pate parking area at 3:00 for the 3:15 ascent.
