“Gardens Aglow,” Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Boothbay

Dec. 20-23, Thursday-Sunday, 4-9pm, “Gardens Aglow,” New England’s biggest and brightest light display, with over 650,000 lights! Dec. 20, Thursday, 4:30-6:30pm, “Full Moon Hike with Midcoast Conservancy,” meet at the gate at HVNC at 4:30 p.m. Dress warmly, wear shoes with good grips and a hiking stick if desired, snack, drink and flashlight or headlamp. Your guide will lead the hike to shore of Little Dyer Pond, to watch the moon rise over the water. The hike will be about 40 minutes each way, and of moderate ease. Dec. 21, Friday, 3pm, “Solstice Celebration at Head of Tide Preserve,” there will be Solstice tree decorating for the animals and you are invited to bring something to read or sing. Hot cider and cookies will be provided, Head of Tide Preserve, 85 Doak Road, Belfast. FMI: BelfastBayWatershed.org.
Dec. 21, Friday, 4-8pm, “Solstice Lantern Walk,” join Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust at the Labyrinth in the Woods on the Winter Solstice to bring light and joy into the longest night of the year with friends and neighbors. Group will light lanterns, sing songs, drink cocoa by the fire, and walk the labyrinth as a way to celebrate the return of the sun and lengthening days. Guided walk of the labyrinth will leave every 15 minutes starting at 5 p.m., with a final walk at 6 p.m. Children of all ages are encouraged to attend. Dec. 21, Friday, 8pm, “Celtic Christmas with Fodhla,” Irish music from Portland and Boston After 15 years of performing together and recording on each others solo albums, Portland, Maine-based flute player Nicole Rabata and Boston-based fiddler Ellery Klein decided a group together was long overdue. With the addition of Bethany Waickman on guitar, the trio found a sound rooted in the traditional Irish music Ellery and Nicole honed during years abroad in the Irish cities of Cork, Limerick, and Ennis. The trio is also influenced by the depths of Nicoles virtuosic classical music career, Ellerys Americana sounds, and Bethanys soft-spoken, yet driving, guitar playing. Dec. 22, Saturday, 6-8pm, “Will Brown Concert,” Will plays finger style guitar and the evening will include Americana, Folk and traditional songs and tunes from both sides of the Atlantic. He has played and recorded with many Maine musicians during the past 35 years. His special guest, for portions of the evening, will be Richard Murray of Maryland, who plays a great fiddle and mandolin. Together they’ll play a number of sets of Transatlantic and Appalachian Mt. tunes, no cover, but tips in the basket are much appreciated, Rock City Café, 316 Main St., Rockland. Dec. 23, Sunday, 1pm, “The Bolshoi Ballet’s The Nutcracker: Live in HD,” On Christmas Eve, Marie’s Nutcracker doll magically transforms into a prince and together their wonderful adventure begins.
