Dec. 20, Thursday, 7pm, “Maine Event Comedy Tightest Five Finals,” any stand-up comedian will tell you they have a tight five minutes, but who has the Tightest Five? Mark Turcotte will host as five finalists perform their best five minutes of original material. Along with bragging rights, the winner’s prize package includes paid work, professional headshots, and craft beer. The final round will include: Chris Kinback (South Boston), Scott MacNeil (N. Billerica, MA), Jim Martin (Portland), Julie Poulin (Monmouth), and Brendan Williams (South Portland). Tuck Tucker will be the evening’s featured comedian. Tucker’s verbal wit and physical comedy have made him a favorite throughout New England. He’s a founding member of Portland’s Running with Scissors improv group and was a finalist on HBO’s Lucky 21 Comedy Showcase. He’s performed at the Hartford Funny Bone, the Rhode Island Comedy Connection and the Comedy Nest in Montreal. Dec. 21, Friday, 7-9pm, “The Magic of Winter: A Solstice Inspired Night,” enjoy inspired art of the season by house artists, wine, music and even a Yule Log. The exhibit will also have an added bonus. The primary intention of most winter solstice celebrations is to release the dark in favor of the light, the old in favor or the new, and to welcome back the light as each day begins to grow longer. Release the old when you enter Wicked and leave with something new. Bring in an item that represents something you wish to release in the New Year and leave with a complimentary candle to light and send out your good intentions for yourself and for the world. Dec. 21, Friday, 7pm, “American Concert Pianist Diane Walsh,” featuring works by J.S. Bach, Liszt, Brahms, and “A Little Suite for Christmas, A.D. 1979” by American composer George Crumb. Her program reflects her vast and varied repertoire, ranging from Bach to Crumb. A Steinway Artist, she has appeared throughout the world in solo recital, in concerto performances, and with chamber ensembles. Abroad, she has appeared with orchestras in Germany, The Netherlands, The Czech Republic, Russia, and Brazil. She has been guest soloist with the American Symphony Orchestra and the orchestras of Austin, Delaware, Indianapolis, San Francisco, St. Louis, and Syracuse.
