Sept. 1, Saturday, 7:30pm, “DaPonte String Quartet,” the DaPonte String Quartet repertoire spans the entire history of music, from 17th century works on original instruments, to George Crumb on electric instruments, to cutting edge contemporary quartets. They have commissioned work from such prominent composers as Richard Danielpour and Pulitzer Prize winner David Del Tredici. Strings Magazine recently noted the inclusion in the DSQ’s repertoire of the ingenious quartet Arcadiana by British composer Thomas Ades, when few groups find themselves able to invest the hundreds of hours preparation required for such complex music. Sept. 5, Wednesday, 6:30pm, “Allagash-New England’s Wild River,” meet this Maine author and humorist and discover the eight books that detail Tim’s experiences as a Ranger-Supervisor while living on the banks of our Nation’s premier “Wild and Scenic River-The Allagash”! Narrated by Tim, the show includes music as well as scenic and historic photos from our “Northern Forest”. Spectators will canoe the world-famous river, discover forgotten logging history, and learn about Native American archaeology. Hear first-hand about the lore, legends, and characters that Tim experienced by accompanying his Fire Warden dad and Ranger brother, Buzz, on patrol, and then living in the four corners of Maine while spending 32 years as a Maine Park Ranger!
