June 28-30 and July 1, 3 and 4, Thursday-Sunday and Tuesday-Wednesday, 2:30pm/Thurs-Sun and Wed, 8pm/Thurs.-Sun, Tues. and Wed, “Oklahoma,” join the Ogunquit Playhouse for the beloved classic Oklahoma! celebrating its 75th Anniversary since first opening on Broadway. This groundbreaking musical was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration, and in many ways was their most innovative, having set standards for musical theatre that are still being followed today. The original designs and choreography from Cameron Mackintosh’s London and Broadway revival of Oklahoma!, that made Hugh Jackman a star, will be featured in this lavish production. The high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys living in Western Indian Territory at the turn of the twentieth century, provide the colorful setting for Curly, the confident cowboy, and Laurey, the beautiful, head-strong farm girl, to play out their love story. Throw in a fierce rival vying for Laurey’s attention, one flirtatious fiancée, a reluctant suitor, magnificent choreography and one of the most beautiful musical scores ever written and you have a recipe for a rip roaring good time! This Midwestern maven is winning over theater audiences around the country with an interactive format that combines homespun warmth and edgy improv, leaving audiences in hysterics. In her all new show, Miss Richfield 1981 is “Born Again” finding new religion to bring our divided world together. June 29 and 30, Friday and Saturday, 8pm, “Renee Dion,” Enjoy an intimate evening with experimental soul singer/songwriter Renee Dion in the special listening room that is Flourish. Renee is on her national tour of her new album HAVEN – an intimate view into the space of a woman rediscovering herself. “Dion gathers the emotions closest to the heart and combines them with snapshots of intimate moments. In doing so, she delivers a beautiful mosaic made of the most complex and varied parts of love”. June 29, Friday, 8pm, “Dean Ford & The Beautiful Ones-Prince Tribute,” Vinegar Hill Music Theatre for the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is proud to present PURPLE RAIN FOR ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS featuring New England’s premier PRINCE tribute band THE BEAUTIFUL ONES. Dressed 2 the 9’s, Dean Ford embodies Prince with every fiber of his being, giving you a show as close as you will ever get to the real thing. Not only does the band cover the “Purple Rain” album in its entirety but included in their set are all the hits from his royal badness’ catalogue between the years 1978 and 2015. June 30-July 1, Saturday-Sunday, 10am/Sat. and Sun, 1pm/Sat, “Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, Kids,” it’s princess Aurora’s sixteenth birthday, and Flora, Fauna and Merryweather must use their fairy magic to save her from the spell of evil sorceress Maleficent! This classic fairytale comes to life with songs from the beloved Disney film, including “Once Upon a Dream,” along with fun new songs “Maleficent!” and “A Little Magic Now.” Our Children’s Theatre campers spend one to two weeks learning everything from acting, singing and choreography to understanding lighting, sound cues and blocking movements on stage before performing on the Playhouse’s main stage with sets and costumes by our production team, $17, Ogunquit Playhouse, 10 Main Street, Ogunquit. June 30, Saturday, 6:30pm, “Strafford Wind Symphony,” a 55-member ensemble made up of a cross section of community members dedicated to presenting wonderful music with a professional flair. They perform for the experience of playing music with other talented wind musicians and to bring their passion for wind instrumentation to audiences all over New Hampshire, Southern Maine and parts of Massachusetts. Their presentation is for young and old alike with a blend of crowd pleasing traditional music mixed with heart thumping patriotic tunes. They believe music is a gift which can enlighten, educate, entertain and bring joy to all…and, look forward to making their audience believers too!
