We’ll tell you about Ireland in song & poem, her people and the beauty of the land. We’ll talk about the Easter Uprising of 1916 & how it changed Ireland. March 18-20, Friday-Sunday, 7:30pm/Fri. and Sat, 2pm/Sun, “Next to Normal,” The Goodmans seem like a perfect family. The only problem is that sometimes mom seems, well…a little too happy. The story centers upon the stop/start life of a bipolar mother as she rides the sharp edge between coping and insanity. Next to Normal is a remarkable, thrilling powerhouse of a musical full of humor and compassion. Winner of 3 Tony Awards including Best Score in 2010 and the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 2009, this emotional tour de force features provocative lyrics and an electrifying score. March 19, Saturday 10am-2pm, “Maple Syrup Event at 19th Century Willowbrook Village,” In the midst of many working sugar houses, the museum is offering a day of draft horse sled/carriage rides ($5, $3), maple sugar boiling demo, tree tapping and maple syrup product for sale. Blacksmithing, fiber arts, and cooking in our Victorian kitchen as well as some open museum exhibits. March. 19, Saturday, 10am-6pm, “45th Annual Waban Telethon,” ‘This year, proceeds from the Telethon will be directed to Waban’s capital campaign for the new Autism Therapy Wing to be added to Waban’s Fraser-Ford Child Development Center. Entertainment will kick off with The Returnables Band, and will continue throughout the day. Returning this year will be the much-loved Ben Guillemette with his band, talented country singer Brian Wardwell and the Voyage, Pretty Girls Sing Soprano and the Blue Note Big Band. Also returning are 207 Blues and Jazz Tappin’ Dance Academy, Steppin’ Out Dance Academy, Northern Explosion, and Joel Joliceur with Emerald Sky. The Sanford Mainer’s own B’roose da Moose and Kenny Bear from Kennebunk Savings Bank will be there and once again, MECA will be on hand to finish out the day. Television coverage will be produced by Metrocast Cablevision (Channel 12) in conjunction with Time-Warner Cablevision (Maine Channel 9 and NH Channel 21 and 22). This year’s viewing area will be from Kittery to Presque Isle including all York and Cumberland counties as well as most of the state of New Hampshire. March 20, Sunday, 10am-1:30pm, “Berwick Winter Farmers’ Market Chef Demo,” We have over 22 vendors with fresh, local foods including chicken, grass-fed beef & bison, pork, lamb, cheeses, bread, vegetables, fruit, pies, cakes, gluten-free seafood meals, mushrooms and Lebanese food. At 11am the 2014 James Beard Award Semi-Finalist Chef Evan Hennessey from Stages at One Washington in Dover will be doing a live cooking demonstration. Chef Hennessey will use produce from the market to demonstrate how to create something seasonal and tasty. March 20, Sunday, 3-5pm, “60’s Invasion: A Trip Through the 1960’s—Winter Concert Series,” A flashback to all your favorites from the 1960’s! This band is often considered one of the best “Rock n Roll Oldies” show bands in New England. Their energetic performance will cover songs from Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan and more! You may also hear music and trivia from 60s TV shows.
