March 19, Saturday, 7pm, “Gary ‘Mr. Music’ Knowles and Carolyn Hutton,” Named 2012 solo artist of the year by the Maine Country Music Association, Knowles will make his first appearance in Unity. He is known for keeping audiences engaged, from his Rock-n-Roll early days to his award-winning years playing Country music with Madison-based Borderline Express. The Down East Country Music Association awarded him the Yodeling Slim Clark Award in 2013 after conferring dozens awards on bands he performed with, including Vocal Group of the Year, Duet of the Year, and Rhythm Player of the Year. Gospel and Bluegrass music are also passions of his, and he has brought one of the best in New England to perform with him. Hutton grew up in North Carolina singing gospel music with her family. Years later, when her children were grown, she returned to her old-time roots, forming a Gospel-Bluegrass band with church friends in Dover, N.H. For three years, she played mandolin with an all-female folk rock band, and she joined Bangor-born veteran musician Mac McHale, singing harmony and playing guitar in an old-time Country and Gospel duo. She currently teaches English at the University of New Hampshire, plays guitar and mandolin, and co-hosts a monthly Bluegrass jam in Rollinsford, N.H, $15, Unity College Center for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St, Unity. March 19, Saturday, 8pm, “Juston McKinney,” Former Maine deputy Juston McKinney has multiple Tonight Show appearances and two Comedy Central Specials takes the stage to share jokes and stories about living and patrolling the woods of Maine. Juston grew up on the border of Maine and New Hampshire. After earning an associates degree from the very prestigious Southern Maine Community College, he was hired as a York County sheriff’s deputy patrolling the same border in which he grew up. But in 1997 Juston turned in his gun and badge and left the dangerous streets of rural Maine and moved to New York. While living in NYC he worked his way into the weekend line-up at Comic Strip Live, Stand-up New York, Dangerfield’s, Gotham, and Caroline’s on Broadway. He has had sitcom development deals with Warner Brothers, CBS Productions and Comedy Central.
