Feb. 6, Saturday, 10am, “Chinese New Year Celebration,” Welcome the Year of the Monkey at the annual Chinese New Year Celebration, hosted by the Chinese & American Friendship Association of Maine and the University of Southern Maine’s Confucius Institute. Feb. 6, Saturday, 7pm, “Half Moon Jug Band,” Music with a Mission is proud to present a southern Maine favorite: Half Moon Jug Band. The Half Moon Jug Band started as a merry band of sidewalk subversives entertaining passersby and annoying shopkeepers on Exchange Street in Portland more than 15 years ago. Now, they can now be found on the road playing concerts and festivals all over the northeast. The band thrives on interaction with their audiences. Castlebay members, Julia Lane and Fred Gosbee, have loved and researched traditional music for most of their lives and blend history, legend and experience into their personable performances. Finely crafted ballads with evocative imagery and beautiful melodies depict Maine characters, history, and life close to the elemental beauty of the sea and shore. Feb. 9, Tuesday, 12pm, “Love Songs at Noon,” vocalist Kathy Slack, hourlong show will include familiar love songs as Kathy takes the audience on a musical journey through the decades.
