Feb. 5-7, Friday-Sunday, 7:30pm/Fri. and Sat, 2pm/Sun, “The Game’s Afoot,” It is December 1936 and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast-members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. Feb. 6, Saturday, 7pm, “Brian Dolzani,” A classic troubadour in the lineage of Dylan, Petty, Browne, and Young, Dolzani crafts songs with meaningful, relatable lyrics that are astute and intriguing, often forthright and simply stated. Brian comes to Somerset Abbey for the first time in support of his latest album, ‘A Place That I Can Feel’. The album showcases his skill in songwriting, with solid hooks and personal yet universally relatable themes, grounded by impeccably steady and strong guitar playing. His music comes to life during his energetic and passionate live performances. His heart goes into his songs and comes out on stage, putting audiences at ease in the hands of a great musician. Feb. 6, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Capital City Improv,” This improvisational comedy troupe uses audience suggestions to create a completely customized comedy show. Based in Augusta, Maine, Capital City Improv has been making people laugh with their quick witted, lighting fast short-form improv. Feb. 7, Sunday, 2pm, “George Lopez, classical pianist,” George Lopez, Bowdoin College’s Robert Beckwith Artist in Residence, has been a dedicated and dynamic performer, educator, and lecturer for over 25 years. Mr. Lopez recently premiered a new piano concerto here in Maine, and is also comfortable in styles of music ranging from jazz, ragtime to contemporary styles of improvisation.
