Nov. 7-9, Friday-Sunday, 7:30pm/Fri. and Sat, 2:30pm/Sun, “Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel,” this theatrical masterpiece tells the story of five unmarried sisters eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in 1936, the action of the play is told through the memory of the illegitimate son of one of the sisters as he remembers the five women who raised him, he is only seven in 1936, the year his elderly uncle, a priest, returns after serving for twenty-five years as a missionary in a Ugandan leper colony, for the young boy, two other disturbances occur that summer, the sisters acquire their first radio, whose music momentarily transforms them from upright women into shrieking, stomping banshees in their own kitchen, and he meets his father for the first time – a charming Welsh drifter who strolls up the lane and sweeps his mother away in an elegant dance across the fields, $25, Saco River Theatre, 29 Salmon Falls Road, Bar Mills. Nov. 7, Friday, 8pm, “Ellis Paul,” a critically acclaimed singer, songwriter, poet and troubadour originally hailing from a potato farming family in northern Maine, he is the recipient of thirteen Boston Music Awards, second only to multi platinum act Aerosmith. Nov. 8, Saturday, 7:30am/registration, 9:30am/start of race, “Wells Veteran Day 5k,” an inaugural event coordinated by the Wells Chamber of Commerce and the Wells Elks Lodge with proceeds to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.  Both runners and walkers are welcome to participate, the start and finish are both located at the Wells Elks Lodge and the 5K loop takes you through beautiful, remote back roads of Wells.  The course is considered flat, Snacks, refreshments, and adult beverages will be available to purchase at the Wells Elks Lodge for spectators and participants throughout the event.  We encourage you to bring your ID.  Knowing this event is taking place in the later part of fall here in Maine, warmer apparel is recommended, Wells Elks Lodge, 356 Bald Hill Road, Wells.
