Nov. 6-8, Thursday-Saturday, 7:30pm, “Hairspray,” presented by Fryeburg Academy Arts Department, The show tells the tale of Tracy Turnblad, who overcomes rejection and achieves her dream of performing on a TV dance show in 1960s Baltimore. Nov. 7 – 9, Friday – Sunday, 7pm/Fri. and Sat, 2pm/Sat and Sun, “The Jungle Book Kids,” this musical includes all your favorite Disney tunes, like “The Bare Necessities,” and “I Wan’na Be Like You.” On the run from Shere Khan, a ferocious tiger who has banished him from the jungle, a human boy named Mowgli is aided by an agile panther named Bagheera, along the way, the two meet a sinister snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants, and a giant bear named Baloo, who teaches them the swingin’ musical rhythms of the jungle. After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie, Mowgli and Bagheera are forced to run for their lives, Shere Khan returns, leading our protagonists to rally their follow jungle creatures into battle and restore peace to the jungle, performed by Schoolhouse’s younger actors, $10/adults, $8/students and seniors and $5/kids, Standish Schoolhouse, 16 Richville Road, Standish. Nov. 8, Saturday, 6:30-8:30pm, “Veterans Day Dinner and Civil War Program,” a special program highlighting the Washburn Women in the Civil War Era and honoring Livermore Civil War Veterans, a heritage dinner will be followed by readings and music of the Civil War in the Ladies’ Parlor of the 1867 Washburn Family Mansion, enjoy a delicious dinner of stuffed roast pork wrapped in bacon, roasted vegetables, coleslaw, rolls and dessert in the historic Farmer’s Cottage and then adjourn to the parlor for a rare opportunity to hear readings from family letters and songs of the era sung with piano accompaniment in an authentic setting, the program concludes with a roll call of local Civil War soldiers, $22, Washburn-Norlands Living History Center, 290 Norlands Road, Livermore.
