Classic Maine Camp In Private Setting on Pequawket Lake, Limington, Maine
Character is the name of the game for this year-round camp on
Pequawket Lake in Limington, Maine. Built in 1930, the house at 28 Sawyer Lane has been delightfully updated, yet still retains its classic lines and charm.
This two story house encompasses
1,152 square feet. Enter through the small back porch and you’ll find the first floor features the kitchen, dining room and living room. Each room is separate, but open to the others, creating a flow throughout the space. Pine walls and a
fieldstone fireplace add to the warm and cozy feeling of this first floor.
Three bedrooms and a bathroom are located upstairs. Again, the pine creates for a
cozy, but clean look. Bob and Ruth, the current owners, tell us, “The property is large enough for cookouts and family reunions. We originally purchased it as a place for family reunions with our daughter and grandchildren. The camp can easily sleep ten or more people. When we bought it, it had sleeping arrangements in place for more than a dozen people.”
Bob and Ruth have owned the property since 2009. “We’ve done
some extensive renovations to the camp,” says Bob. “New bath, new kitchen, new paneling everywhere, roofing, etc. The new owners will be able to sit back and enjoy it for the wonderful place that it is.” A drilled well, electrical service and septic are also part of the updates.
A second porch extends across the front of the house. Situated with a
western exposure, the camp is mostly shaded in the afternoon. On hot days, you’ll find this to be a cool location. I’m thinking this porch may just become your place to build a jigsaw puzzle, sip lemonade or take a nap.
Because the house is situated well above the pond, you’ll have
panoramic views and as Bob says, “No flood insurance is required.” It does mean that you have to walk down wooden steps to reach the waterfront, but believe me, it’s well worth it. First, Pequawket Lake is known for its
above average water quality. Second, this property features 100 feet of frontage on the lake. Third, that frontage is sandy and so it’s easy lake access. Fourth, there’s a great dock system to park your boat, bask in the sun or fish.
“Directly across the lake is
undeveloped shoreline –- only woods and a single isolated camp. To the right (south) is the former Moy- Mo-Da-Yo camp, which is now operated by the town of Limington as a day-camp for children. The view to the left (north) looks straight up the lake,” says Bob.
All in all, this is a private location. Only three camps are located on Sawyer Lane and
the neighbors are great. Though the road isn’t currently plowed in the winter, you can probably arrange for someone to do so, should you choose.
The camp is located only thirty minutes from Portland and two hours from Boston, making it easy to reach. Toss your bags into the trunk of your car and
head upta camp for the weekend. The fact that Bob and Ruth did so much work, means you can play when you get there. Bob did say he would add some additional landscaping and maybe hang a hammock or place a porch swing outside. Easy fixes.
As we mentioned earlier, they purchased the camp as a place for family members who lived in New England to gather. “Ironically,” says Bob, “shortly after buying it they moved directly across the street from us. My wife and I love spending time at the camp –- but . . .”
Now it’s time for
your family to love snuggling around the fireplace, building a jigsaw puzzle, or swimming from the dock. Hurry up and call us.
