March 27, Thursday, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., “Contemporary Artist, Phil Niblock,” Phill Niblock is a New York-based minimalist composer, multi-media musician and director of Experimental Intermedia, he has been influential to many younger composers such as Susan Stenger, Lois V Vierk, David First, and Glenn Branca and has worked with Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and Lee Renaldo on “Guitar two, for four”, Niblock’s music is an exploration of sound textures created by multiple tones in very dense, often atonal tunings (generally microtonal in conception,) please arrive 15 minutes early, free and open to the public, University of Maine, 104 IMRC, Stewart Commons, Orono. March 27 – 28, 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., “Earth’s Wild Ride, Planetarium Show,” a story from 200 years in the future that features a moon colonist and his grandchildren as they watch the earth during a solar eclipse, the grandfather recalls the nature of the blue planet where he was born and its most dramatic events including volcano eruptions, dinosaur extinctions and torrential storms, this Omnidome spectacle crosses time and space through computer animation and immerses viewers in the future and past on “Earth’s Wild Ride”, a tour of the season’s night sky, its constellations and planets demonstrates the lovely views Earthlings still enjoy today in Maine, $3 per person, Maynard F. March 29, Saturday, 9:00 a,m, – 3:00 p.m., “Rural Living Day,” Waldo, Maine — University of Maine Cooperative Extension and Waldo County Extension Association are offering more than 20 workshops and seminars at the 20th Rural Living Day, attendees can learn to make cheese, brew beer, produce maple syrup and attract native pollinators to farms and gardens, activities for youth ages 6-12 have been added and include gardening, cooking and outdoors exploration, presenters include: UMaine Extension specialists; John Bunker, author and apple expert; and Jim Merkel, author and director of the Global Living Project in Belfast, Maine, a suggested donation of $20 for adults and $5 for youth covers three workshops and lunch made from local food, Mt.
