What kind of fish will you catch here? The shallow, warmwater fishery provides excellent habitat for smallmouth bass, white perch and chain pickerel. Is there a boat launch? Yes, there is a dirt launch on Rooks Road in Eddington.
The pond is best suited for kayaks and canoes. There are numerous inlets and small islands to explore. And Black Cap and Big Hill Mountains create a scenic backdrop.
A favorite for nature lovers is the “Thoroughfare,” a mile and a half long stream that connects Davis Pond with Holbrook Pond in Holden, Maine. The Thoroughfare is a picture perfect  setting for wildlife viewing. Ducks, loons and muskrats are often seen here. This marshy area is also good moose habitat.
At the other end, Holbrook Pond covers 347 acres and has a maximum depth of 28 feet, with a mean depth of 18 feet. The water quality is below average and there are no known aquatic invasives. Eddington was granted to Captain Jonathan Eddy and others by the General Court of Massachusetts in 1785 because of their participation in the Revolutionary War. The town was first known as Eddytown Plantation. Today, it is home to 2,225 residents.
Only five miles away is Bangor–home to a variety of shops and restaurants, theaters, Hollywood Slots, the American Folk Festival and the Bangor State Fair. For day trips, consider traveling to Acadia National Park, Mount Katahdin or Freeport. It’s just over a two hour drive to Portland from Eddington, and not quite four and a half hours to Boston. Plenty of time to transition from life at the lake to life in the city and visa versa.
