Lakefront Property Owners Enjoy Hikes In and Around Woodstock, Maine

Hills and Mountains Surround the Small Lakes and Ponds in Woodstock, Maine

Lakefront property owners in the northwest corner of Oxford County, Maine, enjoy the hills and mountains of the Woodstock area. The natural landscape offers idyllic, scenic vistas. And along the way, history buffs can learn more about things such as the last hand-cranked telephone in the state and a spring with medicinal purposes.



Buck and Lapham’s Ledge
A two-mile loop trail leads to the summit of Buck’s Ledge Trail and then back to the road, which you’ll have to walk on to return to your car, unless you decide to retrace your steps on the mountain trail. From Buck’s Ledge, enjoy views of North and South Ponds, Mount Abram, and the Mahoosuc and White Mountains. Prior to reaching the summit, look for the spur trail to Lapham’s Ledge, which offers southern and eastern views.

Little Concord Pond State Park
A gradual climb leads to Little Concord Pond–at the Y, follow the trail to the left and circle the pond, or turn right to climb the Bald Mountain Trail. From the summit you can see Shagg Pond.
Degree of Difficulty: Moderate-Difficult
Trail Access: Shagg Pond Road, Woodstock
Mount Christopher
This 2.3 mile loop is marked by blue blazes. The trail is located on the campus of the UMaine 4-H Camp and Learning Center. From the summit, enjoy views of Spruce Mountain and Lake Christopher.
Degree of Difficulty: Moderate
Trail Access: Lakeside Road, Greenwood
Maggie’s Nature Park
A network of 3.2 miles of trails wind through this nature park donated to the town by Maggie Ring. Several trails lead to the Peaked Mountain Bluff, where you’ll find views of  Twitchell Pond from the ledges.
Degree of Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Trail Access: Greenwood Road, Greenwood
Mount Zircon
After gradually ascending via a gravel road, turn left at 1.5 miles to sample water from the overflow pipe of the former Moontide Spring. Continue on to the almost bald summit. There are several history-oriented geocaches on this 5.4 mile round-trip hike.
Degree of Difficulty: Difficult
Trail Access: South Rumford Road, Rumford
Round Mountain
Along the way of this 1.8 mile round-trip hike, enjoy scenic views of the White Mountains. You’ll also have a good view of the church, parsonage and grange hall in Albany.
Degree of Difficulty: Moderate
Trail Access: Hunt’s Corner Road, Albany
