Bryant Pond Lakefront Real Estate Accentuated by Picturesque Sunsets and Towering Norway Pines

Quiet Morning on Bryant Pond in Oxford County, Maine
Bryant Pond, also known as Lake Christopher, is the largest of the ponds in the Maine Lakes and Mountains towns of Greenwood and Woodstock. The pond covers 278 acres and has a maximum depth of 63 feet. It’s located only minutes from Sunday River and Mt. Abram Ski Resorts.
The mixture of rocky and sandy shoreline make it popular amongst anglers who catch coldwater fish species including smelt, landlocked salmon and brook trout here. A public boat ramp is located next to the outlet at Rowe Hill Road.
From your lakeside getaway on the pond you’ll enjoy views of Mt. Abram and the surrounding hills and mountains.
The Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center, formerly the Maine Conservation School, is located on Bryant Pond.
Bryant Pond achieved some national fame in the mid-1970s when its family-owned Bryant Pond Telephone Company became the last hand-cranked telephone exchange in operation in the United States. In 1981 the local company, operating from a switchboard in the living room of owners Barbara and Elden Hathaway, was purchased by the Oxford County Telephone & Telegraph Company. Despite a valiant effort to keep the hand-cranked phones, the last “crank” calls were placed on October 11, 1983. From that point forward phone service has been through a modern dial exchange (207-665). To commemorate the crank phone, a 14-foot tall monument was erected on a village green beside Route 26.
Check out this statue, and a couple of other oddities including a three-story outhouse and giant butterfly sculpture when you look for waterfront property along the shore of Bryant Pond.
