Lakefront Property Owners Enjoy Hikes In and Around Lyman, Maine

From saltmarshes and estuaries to a monadnock, the towns of the Sanford Lakes Region provide unique trails with spectacular views.


Massabesic Experimental Forest
Six miles of trails pass through this forest property owned and managed by the USDA Forest Service. Pass through open woodlands, past glacial boulders and around a pond.

Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm
Seven miles of trail are open from daily from 7am to sunset. The variety includes a forest interpretive trail, estuary trail and beach trail.
Degree of Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Trail Access: 342 Laudholm Farm Road, Wells

Tatnic Hills Preserve
This 200-acre preserve offers two trails. To the east, follow the one-mile trail through a hardwood forest with granite outcroppings. The trail to the west is an easy half-mile loop through woodlands and beside several vernal pools.

Trail Access: Cheney Woods Road, Wells
Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge
The Carson Trail is a one-mile loop that meanders through woods to a tidal saltmarsh. Open from every day from dawn to dusk, this trail is universally accessible.

Trail Access: Port Road (Route 9), Kennebunkport
Marginal Way
A paved public  footpath winds beside the Atlantic Ocean for 1.25 miles and links Perkins Cove with Ogunquit.

Mousam River Estuary Trail
This 1.5 mile trail follows an old railroad line and is part of the 3-mile multi-use Bridle Path Trail. It leads to a tidal estuary.

Parsons Way Trail
The 2-mile paved cliff walk offers ocean views and leads to Cape Arundel. Along the way, explore Spouting Rock and Blowing Cave.

Mount Agamenticus
Eight trails crisscross on the highest location in York County. On a clear day you can see Mount Washington from this monadnock.
