Inviting Water of Thompson Lake in Casco, Maine
Thompson Lake Marina in Casco, Maine, is the only full-service marina on the lake. It’s location in a sheltered cove at the southern end of the lake makes it a perfect place for lakefront property owners to dock a boat for the summer season.
The lake encompasses 4,426 acres with a maximum depth of 121 feet. The bottom can be seen to a depth of 35 feet. It is twelve miles long and two miles wide, so there’s plenty of water for you to play on or in.
Thompson Lake is located in Casco, Otisfield, Oxford and Poland, and is
spring-fed by the Poland Spring Aquifer. Though the lake is rated one of the ten best lakes in Maine because of its superb water quality, it’s a fairly quiet lake in terms of boat traffic. It won’t take you long to realize you’ve
escaped from the overcrowded lakes in the Sebago Lakes Region.
Rent a ski boat, pontoon boat, canoe or kayak from the marina by the half day, day, multiple days or weeks and explore the many coves and islands.
Try snorkeling in Potash Cove or one of the others and discover the huge rocks left by glaciers.
Slip rentals are available by the day, week, month or season. The marina also features a gas dock and boat maintenance services. For a small fee, you can launch your boat. You’ll also find clothing, bait, lures, batteries, pizza, sandwiches and Giffords Ice Cream there,
plus the Internet Dock. All the docks at the marina are “hot spots.”
One of the other great features you can easily enjoy from a boat is the
view of Mount Washington. And make sure if you rent a boat from the marina, that you have time to enjoy the spectacular sunsets.
Avid anglers won’t want to miss Thompson Lake. If offers opportunities galore for every type of fisherman.
Buy some bait at the marina store and venture out to catch a few. The Maine Inland Fisheries monitors the lake and stocks landlocked salmon annually. You’ll also find lake trout, cusk, and large and smallmouth bass.
Of course, any time you’re on the lake, expect
wildlife sightings such as loons, eagles, moose, deer, foxes and ducks.
It doesn’t get much better than this with lots of trophy fish to catch, starlit nights, and no background noise. Thompson Lake may just be the next place you want to call home. To
