Attractive A-Frame overlooking Coffee Pond in Casco, Maine

The Maine camp at 129 Coffee Pond Road in Casco offers plenty of views of pristine Coffee Pond. Utilizing the classic A-frame style, the house has the traditional steeply sloping roof and cozy living quarters. Architect Andrew Geller designed the A-frame style in 1957 and it was known for its pyramid shape, front and rear gables, and sloped roof, which allows heavy snow to slide to the ground. It quickly caught on as a style for beach and mountain homes.

Filled with retro charm, the A-frame on Coffee Pond was built in 1975. The current owners purchased it in 1999 for their young family of four. In 2002, they added another geometric shape, increasing the living space to 1,050 square feet.

The first floor accommodates an open-concept kitchen, dining room and living room, plus two bedrooms. A master bedroom fills the lofty space on the second floor. There are 1.5 bathrooms. On the outside, a deck provides the perfect spot from which to enjoy gorgeous sunsets while sipping coffee or wine.

Special features of this house, that feels light and airy, include lots of large windows, skylights throughout and a fire place in the living room. Knotty pine paneling adds to the clean, rustic look and provides more geometric design. From the deck and master bedroom, you’ll enjoy amazing views. “It is a westerly view,” says the owner, “so we get phenomenal sunsets and sweeping views of the lake.”

One of the beauties of an A-frame is the fact that it’s low-maintenance, allowing more time to play. The owners say their favorite memories “are of friends and family gathering at our camp for fun on Coffee Pond.” With its sloping wood lot and 100 feet of waterfront, the camp easily accommodates social gatherings.

“It’s a beautiful spot with ample sunshine and the water is crystal clear,” they remind us. At 137 acres, Coffee Pond is a quarter mile wide and a mile long. Like so many other bodies of water in Maine, even though it is called a pond, Coffee Pond is a very large body of water–It’s more like a lake. This spring-fed pond has a maximum depth of 70 feet and the water quality is absolutely EXCELLENT!

Anglers are delighted with the pond. It’s managed for cold and warm water species. And the camp owners have viewed turtles and even a resident bald eagle.

One of the many things that appealed to these owners was the low boating traffic on Coffee Pond. Yet, the boating options are plentiful.
Enjoy a sunrise canoe or kayak paddle or perhaps an afternoon of watersking and tubing with the kids.

Casco, Maine, offers the perfect setting to experience the laid-back life you might expect. The close-knit community celebrates Casco Days, always the last Saturday in July. And the owners remind us of another summer tradition–ice cream from Pears Ice Cream Parlor. Surrounding the town green is the Casco Public Library, Post Office, Community Center, Grange Hall and Casco Village Church.  And a short distance away on Lord Hill Road, off of Mayberry Hill Road, is the  Baker’s Dozen bakery. Stop by for a sample of Eunice Long’s blueberry pie or molasses cookies. They’re yummy.

The current owners say that their family has grown and they can’t get away to the camp as often as they would like, so it’s time for them to close that chapter of their lives and move on. If it’s time for you to start a new chapter, then we highly recommend that you begin here. Let the simple living of this A-frame, located less than an hour from Portland and just over two hours from Boston, become your weekend retreat or primary residence.
