Branch Pond, Palermo and China, Maine: Lakefront Getaway for All Seasons

Sunrise on Branch Pond, Palermo and China, Maine

Branch Pond in Palermo and China, Maine offers a great lakefront property location for your fall foliage fix, ski getaways, spring break and summer vacations!

The pond is the headwater for the West Branch of the Sheepscot River, a spawning and rearing ground for salmon. What kind of fish will you catch on Branch Pond? Besides large and smallmouth bass, the fishery includes brown trout, white perch and chain pickerel. An unimproved trailer access can be found off Route 3 in Palermo.
The pond covers 310 acres and has a 10.9 mile perimeter. The maximum depth is 38 feet with a mean depth of 8 feet. The water quality is slightly below average, but the Branch Pond Association was formed to address this.
Located halfway between Portland and Bar Harbor, owning Maine lakefront real estate  on Branch Pond means you can enjoy day trips to these to locations, as well as Camden, Belfast, Rockland and Augusta.
Or . . . enjoy your time relaxing on the water and exploring the coves and islands. There are a cople of geocaches around the pond just waiting to be discovered. If it’s solitude you seek, Branch Pond is the place to find it.
Palermo sits at the southern end of Branch Pond, with no industry and no storefront businesses (locals joke that there are no cash registers in town), relying instead on its proximity to bigger towns for amenities. The Palermo Library offers art and reading programs; there is a community center off China Ridge; and the American Legion sponsors public suppers. The town boasts a small post office, a volunteer fire department, town office, and K-8 Consolidated School that is part of school Union 133 (Windsor, Somerville & Palermo).
The quaint, historic village of China is home to a Tobey’s Market, where you’ll find great selections and prices. Make a purchase of live lobster from Tobey’s part of your vacation plan. The China Baptist Church maintains a beach. The town is also home to the  Albert Church Brown Memorial Library and antique shops. The China Four Seasons Club offers Red Cross affiliated swim lessons and miles of trails to explore via your ATV or snowmobile. In South China, you’ll find the China Dine-ah and the South China Public Library, the oldest continually operating library in the State of Maine.
