Gull Pond, Rangeley, Maine: At Lakefront Property Become One With Nature

Sunset over Gull Pond in Dallas Plantation near Rangeley, Maine

Gull Pond in Dallas Plantation near Rangeley, Maine, is a lovely alternative to a big lake. They say that good things come in small packages and that’s certainly the case with Gull Pond.

At 283 acres, the pond has a perimeter of 3.1 miles. It’s maximum depth is 40 feet, with a mean depth of 15 feet. Surrounded by hardwoods and softwoods, the lake provides a beautiful background to any outdoor endeavors. Most camps, cabins and cottages along the shoreline enjoy mountain views  of the East Kennabago Mountain Range and Spotted Mountain, plus lots of privacy.
What kind of fish will I catch? The coldwater fishery supports both landlocked salmon and brook trout. There is no public access to the pond. No known invasive aquatic species have been discovered and the water quality is average.
Skiers, snowmobilers and 4-wheelers love this four-season lakefront vacation destination. Saddleback Mountain Ski Area and Rangeley Lakes Nordic Trail Center are located in Dallas Plantation. Plus there is easy access to the ITS snowmobile trails.
Located in the heart of the western Maine Mountains and Lakes Region, Dallas Plantation has a population of about 309 according to the 2010 census. This very small town is just minutes from Rangeley Village where you’ll find all the local flavor you might expect and all the amenities you need, including groceries, shopping and restaurants.
On Gull Pond you’ll be sure to enjoy the ambiance of canoeing or kayaking, especially in the morning or evening. It’s so different from a walk in the woods. Paddle alone and become one with nature as you drift along and watch the spotted turtles retreat to the water from their position on a log, site a moose feeding on pickerel weed and listen to the red-winged blackbirds defend their territory.
At night, from your screened porch listen to the inspiring call of the loons rising from the dark waters of the pond. Henry David Thoreau often heard the loons on his trips through northern Maine and described it “as if its language were but a dialect of my own . . . awake at night I listened to hear some words or syllables.”
