Heaven on Earth Found at Lovely Cottage on Little Sebago Lake in Windham, Maine

A Lovely Year-Round Cottage on Little Sebago Lake, Windham, Maine

A picture perfect two bedroom lakefront cottage on Little Sebago Lake at 7 Loon Lane, Windham is “Heaven on Earth.” It’s the current property owner who made that statement and he’s a minister, so we believe him.

Situated on an inlet, this turn-key waterfront property is just the right size for one or two people. It’s open and airy, with a living room, bathroom and kitchen on the first floor and two bedrooms on the second. Window views are of the lakefront–only five feet away.
And from the inside or out, expect to see loons, Canada geese, cranes, eagles, turtles, deer, turkeys, ducks and maybe even a moose. It’s indeed a heavenly spot. The quiet lake has less boat traffic than others, perhaps because it is small, thus making it perfect for enjoying the wildlife.
Little Sebago Lake covers 1,898 acres and is about 5 ½ miles in length.  The serpentine shoreline of the lake is fun to explore via canoe, kayak, paddleboat, or powerboat. Little Sebago, located just east of its much larger brother, Sebago Lake, actually consists of three distinct basins, northern, middle and southern. This is one of the premier bass lakes in southern Maine.
Catch fish, watch wildlife, roast marshmallows, cross-country ski, view meteor showers. Work in the beautiful gardens that surround the house. Dine on the lakeside deck. Enjoy an evening filled with story telling and sing a-longs around the fire pit. The property at 7 Loon Lane beckons you outdoors. There is 75 feet of water frontage, where though it isn’t swimmable, you can dock a boat, watch dragonflies hatch or catch frogs. Just 300 feet from the property is a common beach you’ll share with your neighbors.
And the neighbors–by all reports, they are the best. “They even help me mow my yard and the 4th of July celebrations at the lake are as good as it gets,” says the owner, who is sad that he has to leave due to a family commitment.
He purchased the property in 2007 and has lived there year round. “I loved every minute of it,” he says. “I loved the serenity and the nature. It is a very quiet, private spot–ideal to enjoy, revel and fill my soul with the beauty of nature and yet only five minutes from Windham and a half hour into downtown Portland. I always felt is was magical. It always felt like a safe, retreat space.”
As a minister, he held numerous Easter Sunrise services and silent retreats at this little home. He also hosted cook outs and lobster feasts on the deck. And extended the spring and fall seasons with time spent around the fire pit. “In the winter I felt the lake and nature were all mine,” he comments. “I enjoyed the winter magic as well–the beauty and solitude and hot tub and cross-country skiing.” Yes, the hot tub comes with the property.
People always told him it was a magical little spot to relish peace, serenity and beauty. If he didn’t have to leave, he wouldn’t–this sweet cottage truly is “Heaven on Earth.”
