Speaking of good beer, The Good Beer Store opened in Fryeburg in the spring of 2011. Owners Bob and Teresa Prouty and Ruthie and Kevin Antonucci tired of making the round trip journey to Portland to purchase good beer so they opened their own shop featuring specialty beer and wine. At 285 Main Street in Fryeburg, The Good Beer Store has the best selection of American craft and import beers in the area. Here you’ll find Fantôme Saison, Tripel Karmeliet, some Stillwater beers, Cadillac Mountain Stout, Victory, various Weyerbacher offerings, Peak Organic and more. Open Tuesday thru Sunday, you’ll also find a small selection of wines, chips and other foods. Plan to spend some time talking all things beer and building your own six-pack by mixing and matching. Bring cash though, because they don’t take credit cards, but there is an ATM on-site. Check their Web site for beer and wine tastings.
Just off of Route 5 in Lovell is Ebenezer’s Pub situated beside the 3rd green at Lake Kezar Golf Club. Owners Jen and Chris Lively have over 35 beers on tap, mostly Belgian, and over 1,000 bottles of beer in their coolers and cellar. So . . . if you need a cool one after surviving the second hole, you’ve arrived at the right place.
Bray’s Brewpub and Eatery is located in a Victorian farmhouse on Route 302 in Naples. Michael Bray has been brewing beer in the barn since 1995. He and co-owner Sonja LaRochelle, offer beer, wine, fine food and musical entertainment throughout the year. Fresh, hand-crafted ales include Brandy Pond Blonde Ale, Old Church Pale Ale, Pleasant Mountain Porter and Mt. Olympus Special Ale. Tours of the brewery are available on Thursdays at 2 p.m.
And finally, if you like the party atmosphere and want to sample a variety of beers, as well as some cider and wine, the Greater Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual Maine Lakes Brew Fest in late September at Point Sebago Resort. Twenty-five to thirty brewers, including Bray’s, D.L. Geary Brewing Company, Gritty McDuffs, Oak Point, Rising Tide, Sebago, Sea Dog Shipyard and Sunday River Brewing Company, offer samples to those 21 and older. If you plan to attend, bring your ID.
If these samplings of beer real estate whet your appetite, think about spending vacations in the Lakes Region so you can frequent these venues and others. Check out all the current lakefront property listing by clicking on the green box above.
