Spend an Old-Fashioned Summer at a Classic Maine Camp on Long Lake, Naples, Maine

Classic Maine Retreat on Long Lake in Naples

A comfy and inviting classic Maine camp set on Long Lake in Naples beckons to be your second home. Heed the call.
Step through the back door of this three-season house at 9 Sunflower Lane and you’ll enter the open-concept living room, kitchen and dining area. It’s filled with charm. A gas fireplace and knotty Pickwick pine paneling add to the classic camp ambiance. On the first floor, you’ll also find the master bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs are two more bedrooms and another bathroom.

The front of the house features a screened porch–perfect for morning coffee or drinks after a game of golf at the Naples Golf and Country Club. You’ll live in the porch, a must on the lake. From here you can enjoy morning bird calls, fresh, crisp breezes over the lake and the evening stars.1108546_201_12
Other features include an updated septic system, two tarred parking spots  and a small storage shed. The yard is nicely landscaped.
The current owner purchased the property in 1974. “It reminded me of a place my parents owned that I loved,” she says. “The age of the house, the interior paneling, the smell all added to my desire to have this house.” She’s selling because she’s in her mid-80s and feels the time has come.
Set on a lot that is 200 feet deep, the 921-square-foot house is located close to the water’s edge. Fieldstone steps lead from the porch down to a sandy beach–one of the nicest on the lake. The beach and gradual incline into the water make wading or launching canoes/kayaks easy, and you can fish off the dock.
From the house, you can’t hear the main road. Instead, it’s quite peaceful. “I see the lake in front, the woods in the rear and friendly neighbors on both sides,” says the owner. “There is a loon or two almost every day in front of the house. Also ducks enjoy my beach, the fluffy babies especially. There are lots of squirrels and chipmunks, birds at the feeder and always hummingbirds enjoying the sugar water I provide.”
Location, location, location. Own this property and you’ll have a piece of Maine history, since it was built in 1900, when people went to their “camps” to find peace and quiet in natural surroundings. You’ll also be right on the lake and within easy walking distance to the village of Naples. “I like being able to walk to the Causeway, the library and the post office. There are five restaurants along the Causeway and three ice cream shops.”
Neighbors can make or break a place. The owner tells us that hers are wonderful and they often get together to socialize. Her family, golf and church friends have also visited for picnics. When the sun is shining, she has accommodated up to 25 for a picnic, but doesn’t recommend any more than 10-12 visitors if it’s cold or rainy.
Her favorite features of the house–Its age and classic details, the location on a clean, clear lake that people care about and the beach.
If you’re searching for a rare vacation getaway, this rustic lakeside cottage in the woods on Long Lake is it. This is the perfect spot for a family wanting to spend old-fashioned summer time with the kids.
