Sebec Lake, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine: Breath-taking Views From Lakefront Property

Spectacular Mountain Views from Sebec Lake, Maine

Sebec Lake in the Maine Highland towns of Dover-Foxcroft, Sebec, Bowerbank, Willimantic and Guilford, offers lakefront property owners clean, clear waters and breath-taking mountain views.

Encompassing 6,362 acres, and stretching for ten miles, Sebec is a Native American term for Great Pond. The maximum depth of this great pond is 155 feet, with a mean depth of 42 feet. The Sebec Lake Association, founded in 1971, works “to protect and preserve Sebec Lake.” The water quality is above average. And to date, no known invasive aquatic plants have been identified. It’s important, however, that you wash and check your boat before launching.
Are there boat ramps for Sebec Lake? Yes, there are three: Greeley’s Landing in Dover-Foxcroft; Cove Road in Sebec Village; and Landing Road in Bowerbank.
What kind of fish will I catch here? The lake supports both coldwater and warmwater species, including largemouth and smallmouth bass. It’s also one of the four original landlocked salmon waters.
Peaks-Kenny State Park is an eight-hundred acre park on the South Cove, given to the state by Dover-Foxcroft lawyer Francis Peak in 1964. Camping is available at the park, located a short distance from Greeley’s Landing.
On Sebec Lake, you’ll have a 52-mile perimeter to explore, including miles of undisturbed rocky shoreline and secluded coves. There’s plenty of room to boat, swim, fish, sail, snowmobile, cross-country ski and snowshoe from your waterfront real estate. And if you like to bike or hunt, you’ll love the country roads and thousands of acres of wilderness.
There are a few special features of the lake to check out. Kayak or canoe to Wilson Stream, where you can enjoy the Earley Landing Falls and Earley Salmon Pool. As you move along on your boat, you’re sure to see Norwood Castle, built in 1890 as a wedding gift from Foxcroft attorney, Willis Parsons, to his bride.
From the summit of nearby Borestone Mountain in the Borestone Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary, you can enjoy a spectacular 360º view of the lake and surrounding mountain ranges.
Sebec, Bowerbank and Willimantic are small villages. Willimantic has a population of under 150, but in its heyday when the Willimantic Linen Company of Connecticut operated a spool mill at Greeley Falls on Wilson Stream, over 400 people lived and worked here.
Guilford and Dover-Foxcroft offer all the amenities you’ll need, including the 46-bed acute care Mayo Regional Hospital. Lots of fun activities occur here throughout the year including the following: the annual Kiwanis Club Piscataquis River Canoe Race from Guilford to Dover-Foxcroft, Homecoming Celebration each summer, the Piscataquis Valley Fair in August, and the Maine Highlands State Championship Sled Dog Race.
Surrounded by mountains, you’ll enjoy spectacular views from the water or your lakefront cottage. Imagine dining al fresco on the porch, then wandering down to the fire-pit for a cozy evening by the lake. Fresh air, loons, stars, s’mores. Purchase a classic Maine cabin, camp or cottage and you can enjoy life the way it should be!
