Long Pond, Somerville & Windsor, Maine: Share BBQ or Boiled Lobster at Your Lakefront Home

The Inviting Crystal Clear Water of Long Pond in Somerville, Maine

Long Pond in Somerville and Windsor, Maine, was once known as Patricktown Pond. Located an hour and a quarter from Portland and three hours from Boston, the crystal clear waters invite you to sip your morning coffee or tea on the dock of your waterfront property while observing the resident loons and ducks.

The pond encompasses 504 acres and has a maximum depth of 16 feet, with a mean depth of 11 feet. It’s a large, shallow pond with a 7.4 mile perimeter. The water quality testing indicates that the water is slightly below average. A state-owned boat ramp is on the eastern side.

The fishing here is great–the principal fisheries include smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, white perch and chain pickerel.
Long Pond is off the beaten path and offers exceptional views. You’ll also have ample opportunities to gaze at the stars and listen to the cry of the loons (laughter too!) and song of the coyotes.
The Sheepscot River flows southwest through Long Pond, thus the pond is part of the Sheepscot Watershed. The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association protects more than 3,540 acres through purchases and conservation easements.
Somerville is a small village of just over 500 residents, while Windsor is a bit larger, with over 2,000 residents.
In Windsor, you’ll find yourself a frequent customer at Hussey’s General  Store where you can purchase groceries, furniture, appliances, used books, tools, hardware, wedding dresses (yes, you read that correctly), new and used guns (yes, again, you read that correctly), an ATM, feed and grain, hunting and fishing licenses and equipment, plus gas, diesel and kerosene. It’s also a tagging station and a UPS shipping station. As they say, “If you can’t find it at Hussey’s . . . you don’t need it . . . and if you absolutely need it, we can find it for you.”
Windsor is also home to the Windsor Fair, “A Family Tradition Since 1888.” The fair is Maine’s second largest agricultural fair. And the fairgrounds host the Maine Fiber Frolic each June.
While at the pond if you are looking for free range eggs, chickens, turkeys, beef and pork–look no further than Emma’s Family Farm–eat local!
Explore the many coves of Long Pond or drive to the Atlantic Ocean for your saltwater fix. A variety of day trips await while you spend time at your Maine waterfront real estate. From your cabin or cottage you can easily reach popular destinations in the Penobscot Bay Region including Camden, Rockport, Lincolnville, Belfast, Boothbay Harbor and Damariscotta, as well as ferries to coastal islands.
Think barbecue or boiled lobster on the deck of your lakefront cottage or cabin, family style. To learn more about the lakefront property listings for sale on Long Pond in the Mid Coast Region of Maine, just click on the green button above.
