Bright and Clean Lakefront Chalet Flanked by Forest on Pequawket Lake in Limington, Maine

An immaculate lakefront chalet on Pequawket Lake in Limington, Maine, offers a peaceful place to recharge your batteries. Located at 27 May Street, this easy to maintain home is set on a secluded cove and has two stories of glass overlooking the water.

The 1,235 square-foot house features an open floor plan with a cathedral ceiling on the first floor. Large windows and sliding glass doors bring the outside into the kitchen, dining and living room. Two bedrooms and a full bath are also on the first floor. A wood stove in the living room heats the entire house. In fact, the current owners, Steve and Eileen, use five and a half cords of wood each winter. Electric heat and a hot air oil furnace provide back-up heat. In the summer, gentle breezes make the muggiest of days bearable.
From the living space you can step upstairs to a sitting room overlooking the cove. Picture yourself relaxing here with a good read while the wood stove below keeps you cozy as snow gently falls outside. Behind the sitting room is the master bedroom with built-ins. There is also a half bath located upstairs.
Off the living room and kitchen a large deck overlooks the water. Steve says that the house and property offer plenty of space for entertainment. “There is lots of room to park, a huge deck and lawn and a patio. We held our wedding here. We rented a huge tent and we had at least 75 people plus caterers and a band. There was room for many more!” The lot is fairly flat as you head toward the lake and the swimming area is shallow enough for the younger set.
He and Eileen purchased the property in 2008. It was built in 1984. They “fell in love with the location on the cove, the woods, privacy, sandy beach and the character of the house.”
Over the years they made some changes. “Perhaps finishing off the basement would be our next project.” The basement is home to a one car garage–just right for a Maine winter. They are selling only because elderly family members may need to live with them in the near future.
Life on Pequawket Lake, aka Horne Pond, has been delightful. The three-acre, wooded lot includes 100 feet of water frontage with a sandy beach. “We can see about one mile down the lake to the southern shoreline and the beach,” says Steve. The Pequawket Lake Preservation Association, located in another cove, has a beach plus lawn games including tennis courts and horseshoes. The association hosts a summer camp where kids can learn outdoor skills and make crafts.

One of the draws of Pequawket Lake is how quiet it is, but another is the pristine quality of the water. At 166 acres, with a maximum depth of 58 feet, Pequawket Lake has above average water quality. “It is clean, beautiful, refreshing, relaxing and the fishing is super!” says Steve.

Boating on the lake offers views of nearby mountains including Moody Mountain (692 feet above sea level) and Sawyer Mountain (1,100 feet). Other views include the wildlife. Steve and Eileen have seen “loons, ducks, turtles, hummingbirds, orioles and many other varieties of birds, chipmunks, squirrels, spring peepers, deer and moose.”

What memories will this couple take with them? “The ice fishing derby each winter, many large family gatherings, campfires on the beach, playing guitars on the deck,  teaching little ones to swim and fish, our wedding right in our own  front yard.”
And their recommendations for local eateries and other activities beyond Pequawket Lake: Bay Haven Seafood Restaurant and Sophia’s Restaurant, plus the antique and quaint shops in Cornish, Bridgton and North Conway.
Each season means something special: Summer–swimming, boating and fishing; Autumn–breathtaking foliage; Winter–snwoshoeing, cross-country skiing and ice fishing; Spring–ice out and peeper serenade.
If you are seeking peace, seclusion and fresh air, then let this bright and clean chalet at 27 May Street in Limington become your home or vacation getaway. Limington is only about 45 minutes from Portland and just over two hours from Boston.
