Oct. 18-20, Friday-Sunday, 7:30pm/Fri.-Sat, 2pm/Sun, “Annie,” the L-A Community Little Theatre presents the Tony-Award-winning musical classic “Annie.” Based on the comic strip “Little Orphan Annie,” the original Broadway production opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years. Longtime friends Liz, Mary and Jo do everything together, until Liz starts dating a creepy guy who may or may not be a serial killer. It’s up to her gal pals to bring her to her senses as they trade in their wine glasses for spy glasses and leap to her rescue. Oct. 19, Saturday, 9am-3pm, “Community Fall Foliage Hike,” come on a guided adventure with us out to Vienna, Maine. We will hike to the top of Round Top (4.4 miles round trip) and enjoy the beautiful fall foliage that Maine has to offer us. This is a beginner hike with 1,000 feet of elevation gain over 2 miles. We will meet at the Main Street Skowhegan office at 9 am. Transportation is not provided. Round Top is about 35 minutes away. Remember to pack a lunch and water, free, Round Top Trail, Vienna. Oct. 19, Saturday, 7:30pm, “An Evening with Jesse Feinberg and Joshua DeScherer,” long-time collaborators Jesse Feinberg, piano, and contrabassist Joshua DeScherer both bring their lifelong experience as musicians to a duo performance that defies classification. Drawing from jazz, popular music, classical chamber music, and experimental improvisation, tonight’s performance will present familiar music in unexpected company by blending the dance hall, the concert hall, and the jazz club, $10/donation, Moody Memorial Chapel, Rt. 201, Hinckley. Oct. 19, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Maine Event Comedy,” Maine Event Comedy, hosted by Mark Turcotte, presents an evening of hilarious stand-up comedy! Give your funny bone a workout as some of New England’s funniest comics take the stage and present their unique brand of humor. Each show will feature at least three comedians and last approximately 90 minutes. These performances are intended for mature audiences and will contain adult language and content. Oct. 20, Sunday, 2pm, “State Street Traditional Jazz Band,” State Street Traditional Jazz Band will perform the opening concert of the 2019-2020 Concerts at Jewett series, sponsored by the University of Maine at Augusta and the UMA Senior College. Every member of this band has a passion to play and preserve Traditional New Orleans Jazz. By capturing the original “Preservation Hall Jazz Band” era of music, founder and leader John Page has brought his love of traditional New Orleans Jazz to the forefront of the music scene since 1987. He has spent the majority of his musical career studying, playing with, and interfacing with the most influential New Orleans musicians of his generation. Oct. 20, Sunday, 3pm, “Otto Frank: An Original Theater Performance,” We all know the story of Anne Frank. Now, come learn more about the story of her father, Holocaust survivor Otto Frank with an incredible original theater performance showing live at the Michael Klahr Center. We are proud to present Roger Guenveur Smith’s innovative theater performance, Otto Frank, featuring sound created live by Marc Anthony Thompson.
