“Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection,” Frontier Theater, Brunswick

Jan. 18, Friday, 7pm, “Guest Speaker: Sandy Scott-Command of Situation and Self-Search and Rescue in the White Mountains,” search and rescue missions are on the rise in New Hampshire’s White Mountains and elsewhere. Growing enthusiasm for going out – and the now common presence of cell phones and other locator devices – means search professionals are making more calls to the volunteers who supply the expertise and muscle needed to execute these often dangerous rescue missions. Using recent White Mountain incidents as narrative examples, Sandy Stott will consider the people who do this search and rescue work and, particularly, the command of situation and self that such work asks. Stott is a journalist, teacher, hiker and recent author of Critical Hours: Search and Rescue in the White Mountains, one of Outside Online’s “Best Books for Spring ’18,” free, L. L. Bean, 95 Main Street, Freeport. FMI: 207-552-7899, www.llbean.com.
