Mar. 5, Thursday, 6pm, “Paint Night Fundraiser,” support your local Sanford High School Project Graduation and the class of 2020 while creating and painting your own masterpiece 16 x 20 “Wishes” acrylic painting. You’ll be the artist; class taught by one of York County’s newest remote paint party hosts, Paint Possible, LLC. Mar. 7, Saturday, 6:30pm, “Stillson School of Irish Dance,” Irish Stepdancing continues to be a wildly popular art form for performers and audiences alike. Ogunquit Performing Arts celebrates this unique style of dance at this most appropriate time of year, by presenting the renowned Stillson School of Irish Dance. The award-winning Stillson dancers, returning to Ogunquit by popular demand, will perform a brilliant array of jigs and reels, dressed in a variety of dazzling, hand-made costumes. The performance will consist of both the fluid soft shoe style as well as the rhythmic hard shoe popularized by shows such as Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. At the end of the performance, the dancers will invite children and the young at heart to join them onstage to learn or try out some steps. A reception with refreshments will conclude the evening. Mar. 11, Wednesday, 12pm, “Living with the Rainforest: The Cultural Knowledge of Borneo’s Dayak People,” Borneo, Indonesia, or Kalimantan as it is known locally, is among the most biodiverse places on Earth. And the indigenous Dayak people of Borneo are the keepers of vast cultural knowledge about the diversity of native plants. Kristen Grant, Extension Associate with Maine Sea Grant, recently traveled to Borneo to study with the Dayak people and help document their traditional uses of native plants for food and medicine.
