Feb. 15, Saturday, 3pm, “Walden Chamber Players Concert,” founded in 1997, the Boston-based Walden Chamber Players has garnered a reputation for being one of the most exciting and versatile chamber groups performing today. Feb. 15, Saturday, 7pm, “Common House Concert featuring Susan Cattaneo,” Susan Cattaneo will bring her powerful, passionate voice and a songwriting acumen that seems to be channeling Mary Chapin Carpenter to Common House Concerts in Belfast. Call it rootsy. Call it New England Americana with a twang. Whatever you call it, it’s really good stuff! In 2016, Susan was an Emerging Artist at Falcon Ridge Festival and performed as a finalist at the Philadelphia Songwriters Project and at the Wildflower Festival Songwriters contest. Over the past two years, she has also been a finalist or winner at some of the country’s most prestigious songwriting and music contests: Kerrville’s New Folk Contest, the International Acoustic Music Awards, the Independent Music Awards, the 5 Unsigned Only Song Contest, the USA Songwriting Competition, the Mountain Stage New Song Contest, and the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. Her latest album, Haunted Heart, was voted one of Alternate Root’s Top 100 Albums of the Year, and won Album of the Year at the Limelight Music Awards. In addition to being a solo performing artist, Susan has been teaching songwriting at the Berklee College of Music for over 10 years, and has also recently joined the Western Mass trio The Boxcar Lilies. Feb. 16, Sunday, 1-3pm, “GMOW Cross-Country Ski with FOXCS,” Join Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust for a Great Maine Outdoor Weekend Outing at Kate Furbish Preserve led by Brunswick-Topsham Friends of X-Country Skiing (FOXCS)! We hope to explore the many skiing areas at Brunswick Landing and if conditions permit, we will have multiple group skis, including a ski specifically for kids. Skiers will need to bring their own equipment and wear appropriate clothing based on the weather, as there are no warming stations. We will email those who are registered for the event the week before with meet up locations. Feb. 19, Wednesday, 10am-11:30am, “Bird Walk to Rockland Harbor,” lifetime birder, Ann Boover, will offer a field trip for birders of all ages and abilities to Rockland Harbor on Wednesday, February 19 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Registered participants gather at the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, 9 Water Street, Rockland at 10 a.m., and then the group will head out to search for birds. Dress warmly and bring binoculars if you have them (we will have a few to loan). After looking for birds, the group will return to the center to warm up with hot cocoa. The movie, Counting on Birds, will be offered for those who wish to stay and learn about the Christmas bird count. Rockland Harbor in winter often is a safe place for eiders, guillemots, grebes, gulls and others as they venture to calmer harbor waters in search of food.
